Is there any way of seeing which photo is which when they are saved as PSD? All I get is this:confused:

That's normal. Adobe removed the viewing of psd files because of a reported problem with a psicon.dll file and they never saw the need to put it back. There are ways of doing it such as this one:

and there have been other similar solutions posted on this forum. I think I did it once and it worked but then stopped working - probably when I got a new PSE version and I've just got used to living without it.

You can always view your thumbnails in the Organizer (in Folder Location View, if necessary)

I also rather like the new Picasa 3 (free from Google). Very handy for quickly browing through all your images and will show PSD and RAW thumbnails as well as the normal image formats. Right click on a thumbnail and you can open an image in Elements.

Have downloaded this and it seems to have solved the problem:)

Sadly, the fix only seems to work in XP, and not Vista. If anyone has heard of a similar fix that has been tested in Vista I would appreciate hearing about it.

For now I still browse in either CS4 Bridge, or my old stand-by Faststone Viewer (free from CNET's Download.com).

Sue, is this the same fix that I used on my XP system, you download and add the psicon.dll and then run the registry patch?

I have Vista x64 which may be the reason it hasn't worked from internet searches I have reviewed, although I will admit I haven't tried it personally, since I do not want to run an XP patch aganst my Vista x64 registry.

Until there is a documented work-around for Vista x64, I think I'll continue to stare at those stupid icons.

Yes Jeff I followed Tony's link and it works. I moved the psicon.dll folder to a file and it worked :)

Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) under Vista 64 will show .psd files as well as raw, .jpg, .tif and probably others in its Thumbnail Browser.

I installed this fix on another Win XP PC which does not have any Adobe products installed except for Acrobat Reader and that PC can now display .psd thumbnails. My two PCs are networked so having the ability to view those thumbnails may come in handy from time to time though certainly not as often as it will on my Elements PC (also an XP system).
