I would like to create a new '2009' catalog in pse7 which I know how to do, but I don't know how to get all the tags I have created in my '2008' catalog into the new one.

Is this possible or do I have to re-create all my tags and sub-tags?

Thanks for any advice offered.

I'm not sure what PSE7 can do about moving tags to another catalog.

However, the PSE Organizer works best when all of your photos are in a single catalog. In particular, if you want to segregate your photos by year, putting them in one catalog and using the Timeline is a much better solution than separate catalogs.

The only time multiple catalogs are recommended is if the subject matter of the two catalogs are completely non-overlapping (like personal and work). If, for example, you have pictures of your daughter in 2008 and more pictures of your daughter in 2009, then by all means, use a single catalog.

I agree with Paige's recommendation.

However, if you really want to make a new catalog, you can easily transfer your tag defintions into the new catalog using the Save Keyword Tags To File command. See step 1 of this FAQ for details:

In case you just want the tags, then the save tags to file method is appropriate. In case you want to use the catalog along with images, then you need to convert the catalog to through File->catalog.

File > Catalog > Convert doesn't apply here -- it converts a catalog from a previous version of PSE to PSE 7. Wendi already has a catalog in PSE 7 and wants to make another one.

Wendi....

I'll go along with the other folks and say it can cause all sorts of problems down the road if you don't think carefully about the implications of having different Catalogs.

As mention previously Catalogs are completely independent and if you have images in one then they wont be accessable in the other.

It seems to me that if you want to copy over your tags then you are expecting to have images in the same category which means a search would only give you those in the current Catalog.

If its just dates you're concerned about then the Organiser can filter by a data range anyway.

However, if you still want to do this then go to the Tags pane and click on the + sign and select 'Save Keyword Tags to File' (might be different in some earlier versions). Then in your new Catalog you select keyword tags 'From File'

Wendi:

I started a new folder-2009 but in the same catalog. If you should ever want to burn or move files iit is easier to move the whole folder.
