Delete and close gap function not working

Working on a new project today and for somereason this function is not working while I am editing the clips. Any thoughts on how to get it back up and running again?

Do you have anything on tracks above or below where you have the gap?
It will not work if there is any video or audio above or below the gap.

If that is the case you can move everything else out of the way temporarily and then close the gap and move the other clips back again, either that or just move them over to fill the gap manually.

With regard to your problems with "Delete and Close Gap" function, I do not totally agree with CE's firm comment's

Interference with the operation of the delete gaps feature is possible and should be looked into. But, it is the "will not work" part that makes me comment further. With my Premiere Elements 7 and content on video tracks 1, 2, and 3 and a gap in 2 content, I can use the Delete and Close Gap Function as wanted, depending on how the content of the other tracks are positioned.

Please advise if CE's suggestions got you passed this situation. If not, then please detail the Timeline involved. Also, define what you mean by the feature not working (other than the gaps are not being deleted), that is
a. Can you right click the gap to get the pop up message "Delete and Close Gap"? If so, is it grayed out? Or is your cursor a red bar with a black two sided arrow, instead of a white single sided arrow, and there is no pop message? Do you have the Timeline expand so that you have a good view of the gap? How large is the gap?
b. Is there any indication that your system is frozen when you have tried to use this feature, rather than that specific feature not responding?

A lot of possibilities. Hope you solve your problem, if not, more details, please.
