View Full Version : Audio issues

I just tried to view my first video I made of the timelapse stair project I did a while back: http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42205
and wanted to preview it so I could have my web guy add it to my website and for some reason I don't have any audio or soundtrack now. I haven't even opened that file up since I posted it a couple months ago so I don't know why the soundtrack went away. I am making another unrelated vid with PE4 but can't imagine that would affect a different file in another place on my computer. The speakers on my computer are working fine too. Is there a button or click in the workspace I missed that is an easy fix for this?
Thanks

Are you saying the you are opening the project (.prel) file in Premiere Elements and you have no audio and soundtrack? I am assuming that the video is OK? Are you getting any missing file messages?

By any chance were the audio and soundtrack added independently of the video? I wondering if you moved the location of the audio on the hard drive since the time you closed the project. I am assuming that this was a saved project .prel, not an archived project.

But, you are saying that this new project is working OK video- and audio-wise???

To be continued,

By any chance were the audio and soundtrack added independently of the video? Not sure I know what you mean here. The music was added to the timeline at the time I made the vid. I wondering if you moved the location of the audio on the hard drive since the time you closed the project. Not sure how I would have done that. I really don't believe I opened this file since I posted it to Youtube. The audio and soundtrack was added to the timeline at the time I made the vid. They are still visible on the timeline now but just can't get any sound. I am assuming that this was a saved project .prel, not an archived project. I saved it in a file titled "Bowden Timelapse.prel" in a project file for the homeowner along with other files for the project in My documents. What is an archived project and how would I tell?

But, you are saying that this new project is working OK video- and audio-wise???
Yes, it's working fine. I'm not finished with it yet but it appears to be working fine.

I just need to hit this point one more time to make sure we are not dealing with a media reconnect problem.

Double click the project .prel file to open it in your Premiere Elements 4. When the program opens, do you get any messages, such as "Where is Missing File.....?"
Yes or No

If Yes, you must keep in mind that, if you just save a project file .prel and you go to reopen, the thumbnails need to link back to where the source files on the hard drive were located when you created the project. If you move the location of the source files on the hard drive after you have saved the project .prel file that they went into, then when you go to reopen the project .prel, you should get a need for reconnection message.

Is the soundtrack that went into the project .prel still in the same hard drive location as when you created the project and saved it? Was your video and audio (audio on audio track 1) linked or unlinked?

If No, did you check all your volume settings for this project?

If we get to the point where we label this .prel a "damaged project", take a look at the following AdobeTechNote on the subject:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402533&sliceId=1

If you do not know what the Project Archiver is, then you probably did not use that feature to save your Project .prel along with the media linked to the project. Read up on that in the Help. You will find the feature under File Menu/Project Archiver/Archive or Copy option. When you use this feature you end up with a "Trimmed...folder" or a "Copy...folder" saved to the location of your choice BUT it also contains copies of media used in that project...thus avoiding reconnect issues that you might encounter if you had not. But, we can go into that later.

Check out all of the above, and I will be watching for your progress.

Thanks ATR
At about the same time you posted a reply I bumped into the "Where is missing file..." window. I clicked through it and solved the problem. I did recently move the music source file on my computer so I could find it easier than where it was originally.
Thanks for your help.

I felt sure that it had to be a reconnect issue, but just this morning I was considering "what next" if all the possible remedies in my last post did not solve the problem.

So, I am extra pleased that did the job.

Thanks for the update.
