I want to use the magnetic lasso to cut out an image from a picture to isolate just that image. I can easily get the lasso to go around the image, but I'm stumped as to how to then cut or crop the selection. Whenever I try to "cut" or "copy", I get a message that says no pixels are selected. But the online elements help doesn't offer any further information that actually helps me. Can anyone out there give me a hand?

Thanks,

Check your layers... there's a good chance that you don't have the layer that contains your image when you're ready to cut or copy (happens to me all the time).

The beauty of selection is that it allows you to select whatever you "see", which may be through multiple layers... when you want to cut or copy, it operates only the currently selected layer.

Try this:

while your selection is still surronded with the Marching Ants do a Ctrl-j. That should put yor selection on it's own layer, then you can have your way with it.

Kelleyaynn:

Most common mistake is to be on the wrong layer after selecting an item.
Check your layer palette and activate the correct layer. if you have many layers until the message goes away.

Isn't the magnetic lasso great, the precision with which you can make a selection is amazing.
