View Full Version : Correcting problems in PSE 7/PRE 7

Hello-I am combining both programs because I created common problems in both programs.
My first problem is that my slideshow has an oversized resolution. Is it possible to decrease the resolution in both of these programs? If so,how?

Is it possible to perform most of my editing in PSE7 adding audio clips, bubble speech while transitions and static duration are added in PRE 7?
Does disconnect prevent text, bubble speech or transition from being removed from the slide show while being transferred from PSE7 to PRE7? If not , is there a method to prevent information from being transferred with the slideshow to PRE7. Thanks.

For the purpose of this response, I am responding assuming that you want to:
Create slideshow in Photoshop Elements 7 and use Premiere Elements essentially to create a DVD-VIDEO, maybe some edits further edits of the Photoshop Elements 7 slideshow in Premiere Elements 7 before the burn to DVD-VIDEO. Further, I am assuming that you are in a NTSC, not PAL, location.

My first problem is that my slideshow has an oversized resolution
I am not sure what you mean by this. If you are referring to the pixel dimensions of the photos that are going into the Photoshop Elements 7 slideshow, you need to keep the pixel dimensions of each photo not to exceed 1000 x 750 pixels, remembering to keep the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. You can do that:
a. individual photos: Photoshop Elements 7 Full Editor, Image Menu/Resize/Image Resize Dialog
b. batch of photos: Photoshop Elements 7 Full Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files

There are no comparable routes for doing this in Premiere Elements. I think that I recall a Robert Johnson (Adobe Forums) suggesting some techniques involving Premiere Elements for doing this. I cannot locate that info right now. I never used it.

Is it possible to perform most of my editing in PSE7 adding audio clips, bubble speech while transitions and static duration are added in PRE 7?

Output your Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow, using the Send to Premiere Elements Output option. Then right click the slideshow on the Timeline, followed by selection of "Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slideshow option". (Handy tips: for transitions, select transition on Timeline, edits of transition in Panel to right; for still durations, go through Edit Menu/Preferences/General OR right click clear space in Project View and then select Still Image Duration. Do not forget to highlight the item on the Timeline beforehand.)

Does disconnect prevent text, bubble speech or transition from being removed from the slide show while being transferred from PSE7 to PRE7? If not , is there a method to prevent information from being transferred with the slideshow to PRE7.

I am not sure what you are after here, especially "Does disconnect prevent....." But, my answer is based on how I read this. Create your Photoshop Elements 7 slideshow with speech bubbles, other graphics, etc. Then go to the File Menu in the Slideshow Editor and click on "Save As Project". That will save your slideshow in the Organizer where you can get at it for further edits. Now, reopen the project that you saved. It opens in the Slideshow Editor where you can remove what you do not want to transfer to Premiere Elements. When finished with the removals, send this version to Premiere Elements 7 via Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow Output option "Send to Premiere Elements".

There are all sorts of details for variations on the theme. You could even create and burn your slideshow completely in Premiere Elements 7. See its Create Slideshow Feature. Do not forget to set the Premiere Elements 7 project preset for NTSC DV Standard (4:3) or NTSC DV Widescreen (16:9)....NTSC if you are in an NTSC location and PAL if you are in a PAL location.

Check out the PDFs for Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7. Above all, do mini runs before the grand project.

Thanks for the information ATR.Your assumptions were correct. MY resolution is higher than you recommended. I will use 4:3 I am going to lower the resolution to within your recommendations and I am using NTSC.

I was wondering if breaking the slideshow apart help keep text added in PSE7 from disappearing before PSE7 sends the slideshow to PRE7? This might not have any impact on losing data but do you recommend breaking the slideshow up after sending to PRE7 ?
After reading your response completely, I believe that you have me on the right track. Thanks.

Carl Lesesne,

I hope that I am not misinterpreting your question, but..

When you create a slideshow in Photoshop Elements, there is no way to send it over in pieces. It goes as one piece (video). As I see it, the only need to break apart the slideshow in Premiere Elements 7 is if you want to make edits that cannot be performed on the one piece (video). Losing text is an independant issue. And, if that is what is happening in your project, then we need to get detail by detail, step by step, on how that is resulting.

Explore and experiment in your project and then let us know if there are specific issues that need resolution. As you explore and experiment with the program, concepts and features will fall into place.

Remember, mini test runs first before the grand project(s).

Thanks ATR-Is cropping the method to decrease pixels in the slideshow? I saw cropping in PSE 7 but no other method in the program to reduce pixels. Thanks.

Wardell1

Did you check out my comments on that in my response to Carl?

1. Photoshop Elements 7
a. Individual Photos: Image Menu/Resize/Image Resize Dialog
b. Batch of Photos: File Menu/Process Multiple Files

Please let me know if I have targeted your question.
