I don't use PSE much for Photography mostly for Scrapbooking. Is the gallery only for displaying photographs or can we scrapbookers use it to display our layouts?
I would love to see what the rest of you are doing with your scrapbook pages.

Anna ...
Of course you can display your scrapbooking layouts in your Gallery , in fact I'm sure that some people do have theirs displayed.
Look forward to seeing some of yours :)

Anna: I have a few pages posted in the gallery. I'm not the photoghrapher that most are on this site but hopefully will get better. I started out with traditional scrapbooking but spent more time shopping for the stuff than creating. I really like digital scrapbooking because I can tweak and tweak and tweak. I'm not real creative in the artist department so it's hard for me to come up with layouts that are different. On the Cousin's page I scanned a picture of dried hydreanga then added a gradient to create the background effect. A total accident but I really like it.
For me, I like using techniques in Elements as opposed to what can be purchased in the digital scrapbooking world. I have plenty of that but generally don't use it. My best source has been Adobe's Studio Exchange and Dafont.com.
Let me know what you think? Once you start this, it's hard to go back.

Kim, I love your layouts.
I too am trying to do better with my photos and love trying new things in Elements. I am somewhat new to scrapbooking in general having started about a year ago with paper and in March of this year with digital scrapbooking. I must say I really do enjoy doing digital scapbooking much more then paper. I hope to get most of my older photos scanned so that I can beging using the tons of kits that I already have. :)
I have been trying to muster up the courage to display some of my layouts and you have certainly given me a push in that direction.
Thanks for sharing.

Kim beautiful job. Anna, go ahead and post. We all love to share and get ideas from others. That's the fun part of this forum.
I am not into scrapbooking and would not even try it when coaxed by a friend as I already have enough expensive hobbies, but doing it with elements is something I wouldn't mind doing!
You both might be interested in Digital Scrapbooking 4 by Simple Scrapbooks. I hear it's in stores now, but I haven't been able to find it yet in Canada. I have the 3rd edition and there are some great ideas in it. I'm not so great at coming up with original ideas, but I'm a pretty good copier! :)

Kim,
I had noticed your layouts before and really liked them. I especially like the one of the kids sledding.
Question ..... did you apply a gradient to the blue mats of the individual pictures to get the light variation? Would you be willing to share how you did it ? I really like the effect.
Also ... what font(s) are used for your title " Winter Wonderland"?

Mary,
Thank you. :)
I've tried to get adventuresome with all the "cute" things you can do, but always tend to return to the simple. Most likely, it is because of my subjects.

How did you do that? Your scrapbook layouts are great. I have Elements 4 and I could not even get other than a straight font in a color on my pages.
Where did you find all those options? If you got them on-line, how did you install them to work in Elements?

Hi Sheila,
I create the pages using the Editor in PSE, not the creations template. It gives you much more flexibility. If you are a subscriber, there are several video tutorials that will help you. Also, check out the tutorials on the scrapbooking sites. Below is a link for some scrapbooking tutorials.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml
You can also download papers, ribbons, tags, brads, etc. from the scrapbooking sites. An excellent site for "freebies" is www.scrapbook-bytes.com (http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com). You simply have to register with the site to download. They also have page layouts available for download which I believe they refer to as page-bytes.
I know that it sounds daunting, but it really is quite fun. Give it a go. Once you get started, the possiblities are endless. Just remember ...... ask when you get stuck !!!!!!!!

Mary, thanks for the encouagement. I started digital scrapbooking back in February of 2005 and spent at least 2 solid months getting to know my way around Photoshop Elements. Thanks to Linda Sattgast. I still have a lot to learn and mostly experiement. Over summer I took a break due to lack of time but have been back at it since September. This sounds so silly, but it's one reason I don't work full-time. Well, that and spending time with the grandkids. Thanks again. Kim

Kathy - yes I applied a gradient but not sure which. I use a lot of them that I've downloaded from Adobe Studio Exchange. My one complaint is I wish each layer had a "Note Section" Dropdown box where you could record exactly what styles and effects were applied. Most of what I do is just trial and error and if I walk away, I forget. I know I could keep a journal, but that is just too much like a "job". Anyway. The fonts used are as follows.
W=Chock A Block NF; I=Crack Babies; N=Davis, T=Fatty;
E= ######Olympia - a past tense word and lets just say it's not a word to use in public but it was a nice font and I was surprised it wasn't removed from the site because of it's name. Enough on that!
R=Happy Days; W=Horseshoes and Lemonade; H=Harrison: D=Newstile
E=Fixedsys; R=Harry Potter; L=Earaser
N= FT Rosecube; D=Dimension. All others not mentioned were repeats. Hope you can find them. Most are from dafont.com. and all free downloads.
Searching can be fun too! Kim

Pauline: You're already a scrapbooker! I liked your Summer Fun 2005 layout and you have all the right stuff for digital scrapbooking. Really, it is only as expensive as you want it to be because most anything can be done within the program without spending another dime.

Kim,
Thank you for the information. I know what you mean about searching ..... so many to choose from. I actually deleted a lot of the fonts that were on my computer the other day to make room for all the really interesting ones I see. And I really like the gradient. I am going to give that a try. Really adds some life to the page.
And thanks for the compliment. Preserving memories is important I think. This past summer I helped an older relative of mine go through old photos of her aunt (my great aunt) who passed away at the ripe old age of one month shy of 101. Needless to say, there were a lot of great old photos, but sadly, many that the people in them are unknown. Part of the reason I decided to tackle this project for Christmas.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Hi Kathy - about fonts - you can never be too thin, too rich or have too many fonts. If you are on windows you can take some fonts and rather than delete them you can put them in another folder and then you don't even have to reinstall them to use them. Just double click on any font in this other folder when you do want to use it and it will show up as an available font in PSE, Word, PowerPoint etc.
I have font folders that are for special things like children's birthday cards, or script fonts etc. :)

Mary,
That is a good idea ... you may not use special fonts very often but they are nice to have :)
