Well, the time to buy a new computer is getting closer, and I'm still on the cusp between a Mac and a Windows machine. Of course, I'd rather have a Mac, but task of getting everything transferred and set up is a daunting one, and I'm just really swamped at the moment. I've got a question that's probably been answered many times before, but I can't find it:

Can .PSD files from Windows be moved to Mac PSE without any interim conversion steps? What I'd like to do is just be able to hook up both machines to my LAN, enable file sharing, and just copy the files directly from one to the other. I'm sure I'll be able to copy the files, but the question whether the application on the other machine will read them is the question I need answered.

Thanks!! :)

.psd, .jpg, .png. and .tif all go back and forth between Mac and PC without any trouble. I use a little 1GB thumb drive to move pics between my Macs and my PCs all the time.

The one thing you have to watch for is unsimplified text layers. To keep the text editable you need to have the font used installed on the machine you are using.

Of course this is true between any two computers not just mac/windows but that can be a bit trickier. You can find free font converters on the web to convert a PC font to a Mac font (or the other way around).

Tons of Mac Fonts are available so if you do have one of these situations you could probably find the font. Are you doing photography and/or scrapping?

coaster, whatever the effort to convert you will find it worth while once you see how friendly the mac is to use.
Every contributor who switched has wondered why they hadn't done it sooner.

If you do decide to switch then there are lots of us Mac users here so we will help :)

And remember - if you buy from an Apple Store - take your old comp in and they will help you transfer the files across for you.

Hey guys, I've been really busy, but I appreciate all the answers, and your answers sound encouraging!! Thanks!!

Ron - neither, actually. I'm using it for website artwork. Buttons, icons, logos -- those sorts of things.
