softening edges with elements 7

Hi, I'm totally new to photoshop elements 7, and trying to digitally scrapbook using the photo collage option. I've chosen a layout, and placed photos in it. I'm trying to soften the edges of one of the photos I've placed in the collage, but haven't had any luck. Any advice??? Thanks.

After applying the style and the layout for your collage, go to the Full Edit view by clicking the Edit tab to the left of the Create tab near the top right of your Elements screen.

You will have separate layers in your layers palette for each picture in your collage. You can edit each layer there.

What exactly do you have in mind to make the edges softer? Blending them into the frames, adding a vignette?
