NOW I cannot get my pse to reinstall USING my cd
Details, please? What happens when you try to re-install? What errors do you see?
In PSE5, you could go to Help->Registration and input your serial number into the Trial version, making it the full version. Have you tried this in PSE6?

Sorry details would help huh.OK when I try and reinstall with the cd , it gets to a certain point, prob about halfway thru and then says it cannot finish the install from the source. and when I try and use my serial number with the downloaded version it says it is not a valid serial number

Apparently the new trial version does not sync with your old upgrade CD, since they would have different serial numbers.
I would contact Adobe and explain the problem. They can check via your registered copy. You did register it?

In general, you can't use your serial number with a downloaded free trial -- it can only be used with a paid version (on CD or downloaded).
Adobe has a tech article on troubleshooting installation problems; see this FAQ for the appropriate one for your version of Windows:

One of the steps includes copying the CD to your desktop and installing from there. But I'd work through all the steps methodically at this point.
Alternatively, you could call Adobe customer support. They generally provide free support for installation problems. But you'll need to be exceedingly patient (long waits, not very skilled tech support).

FWIW, FREE install support from Adobe is only for the current version, which is 7 right now.

Repair installs of PSE do nothing on Windows (and sometimes give wierd messages).

shabbychic, contact Adobe and ask for a replacement of a damaged install disc. They may have this service. It would be worth paying the customary low charge for a replacement CD.
Call support and speak to a tech person, they will answer this even if they don't normally support Elements.
