New to PE and having an issure with an Application Error. When I start creating my story line or organizing my clips I get an error that reads. Application Error : The instruction at "0x0F465e70" referenced memory at "0x0001578". The memory could not be read.
From there I get the option to debug (If I hit cancel) and terminate if I click okay. The program crashes upon choosing either option.
I have a dell computer with XP, Pent 4 processor, and 512 Ram.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I am pretty new to video editing so the easier the directions to fix this problem the better.
Thanks in advance

First thing that we need to do is to define what you are putting on the Premiere Elements 4 Timeline.
You mention clips. Do you know the file format? If you do not know, where did they come from (camcorder name, etc), and with that information I will try to determine the answer.
How many clips do you have and how long are they in minutes?
Are you putting all clips on the Timeline or are there photos also? If photos, what size (pixel dimensions) and how many?
Have you optimized your computer? Defragmented, no unnecessary programs running in the background, etc. You say that you have 512 MB of RAM. Is that installed or available? How much free hard drive space do you have on your computer? Depending on what you tell me about your Timeline content, computer resources and the size of your project may be the core of the issue. If so, your options might be:
1. cut down the size of the project
2. up the RAM to at least 1 GB
3. free up some hard drive space by cleaning up your computer and/or moving some files to an external hard drive.
I will wait for further details from you, and then we together can come up with a plan of action.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am currently in the process of cleaning up my computer for optimum performance. I have discarded all of the programs I use least, ran a defrag, done a disk cleanup (to get rid of all temp files), and also removed unnecessary programs that start automatically.
To answer your questions:
I got the files off of a JVC Everio (HDD). I have 512 RAM installed I don't know how much I have available (how do I go about finding out?). I do have about 44G of hard drive space left. I belive the files are MOD files. I was just playing around with PE 4 and I put 15 clips ranging from 30 sec to 2 minutes in the story line.
As I played around with PE 4 the other night I did not get the error message however after putting all of the clips in the story line and previewing the movie the sound (voices of people in the clip) would keep playing and the picture would freeze after a couple of minutes.
The more I think about it I believe I have a RAM issue (not enough). It takes PE 4 a good 45 seconds to a minute to open up, and I have already mentioned the video freezing issues. Would more RAM allow everything in PE 4 to run smoother (quicker). How much RAM is ideal.
I am still cleaning up my computer and I will try another run at PE 4 in the next couple of days, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Available RAM is top of the list to check out. Look at My Computer/Properties/General. Also, MOD files can be a major problem and often have to be converted to another file format for Premiere Elements to deal with them.
You may have to consider converting the MOD to DV AVI before bringing them into Premiere Elements. Check out the free MPEG Streamclip software:
