View Full Version : Very Unstable PSE6

I've threaded this before but I can't seem to fix this. When I run PSE6 editor, my screen blinks a lot while I am doing anything with the program. Very brief flickers. Then at some random point, either early on in the edit of after working a couple of images PSE6 editor says it's encountered a problem and must shut down. There's no error number that I can find when it does that. I haven't been able to link the error to any particular process, tool or plug-in.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same problem cropped up on the reinstall. I tried redoing prefs. with no help. I tried Adobe's tech support where I had to change the registry (scary!!) but that didn't do it either. There have been no significant hardware or software additions prior to the problem either (that I can remember)
I'm running XP sp3.
Any ideas that I might try?
Thanks
George

George, how about porviding a bit more info about the PC hardware.
You might look into getting an updated video driver. Depending upon the age of the PC, there may be an incompatiblity problem that PSE has run into, that may be fixed by a more recent version of the video driver.
I assume that this problem does not occur while running any other application?
Does it occur in Organizer as well or just Editor?
Did it just start happening all of a sudden (some time after PSE6 was installed), or from day-one that Elements 6 was installed?

Jeff, Thanks for the quick reply. I have been using PSE6 for about a year now, on this same computer. The problem started about 3 months ago and I have been chipping away at trying to fix it since but so far, no improvement. I can't really remember any computer changes that coincided with the onset of the problem. I do add plug-ins from time to time but I tried to eliminate the plug-ins when I uninstalled and reinstalled. I'm not real sure that the uninstall removed everything though, as some plug-ins I had added were still there when I reinstalled. I then went about removing them from the program folder and application data manually.
As for the organizer, I don't use it at all.
As to any other problems, PSE6 is the only program that I'm having problems with. Everything else runs fine.
Lastly, it started suddenly. It had worked flawlessly for the first year.
I hope that narrows the problem a little. I'm not sure what more computer hardware info you need but I'll provide anything you might need. As for the video driver I show that it's up to date. My computer is a 4 year old Dell 2300 desktop and updates are up to date.

George: I just installed Elements 7 and the screen is flickering I hope this is not a continuing thing. I thought it might be files were still loading in background(?) I was using Element 5 and have not had this happen.
