Hello - I am a relative newbie in Premiere Elements (using Pre7) and I am hainvg difficulty with a file that is rather large.

I used my ATSC TV tuner to capture show in HD and saved the file on my computer. The native file is a .ts/transport stream but I converted that to a MPEG. The file is roughly 16GB.

Everytime I attmempt to import it via "add media" it will either crash the program or will start to bring it in and freeze during conforming. I am using XP w/ SP3.

Is there a file size limitation for Pre7 projects or is there a different file format I should convert the .ts to?

Thanks in advance

What are your computer resources?
available RAM
free hard drive space
Windows XP/SP3 operating system (32 bit or 64 bit)

What program are you using to convert the ".ts video transport stream file" to "MPEG"? Maybe some more details about this MPEG?

What Premiere Elements 7 project preset are using setting when you open the new project?

You say the file size is 16 GB. How long is that in minutes/hours?

Thanks for the response ATR

3GB RAM
180GB free disk space
Windows XP/SP3 operating system 32 bit

I am using "HDTV2MPEG" program to convert the .ts file. I am at work now so I can't give too many details other than that.

The recording is about 3hrs long and I am using the 720P preset because the recording was made in 1280x720 so I wanted to match that.

Thoughts?

I suspect that you do not have enough computer resources for the task.

I did a quick look at HDTV2MPEG and it looks like it takes your .ts files and converts them to HD MPEG2 (and according to your description 720p). You go on to say that this video is 16 GB, 3 hours in duration. I do not have first hand experience with this type of project, but here are my comments:

1. I think this is a resource issue. So, is it possible to take only a 60 minute segment of this HD MPEG2 and try to bring that into Premiere Elements 7 and see if you then have a successful import?

2. In the likelihood that "1" is not "it", then let us look at the settings that you used in the conversion of the .ts files to HD MPEG2. What file extension does the file have that you are trying to bring into Premiere Elements 7 Get Media/Files & Folder? Is it .mpg, .mpeg, .m2t, or other? Was it .m2t and you renamed it .mpg? When you do the conversion, are you going from .ts files (transport stream) to HD MPEG2 PS (program stream)?

Let us see if any of the above is involved. If not, we will take another approach.

I think I got it sorted out. I tried recording a different game and splitting it into quarters during conversion to mpg. That seemed to do the trick.

Thanks
