I have spent more time than I care to remember putting a "gazillion" items into tags. Then when I click on a tag that should have at least 10 items in it only one will come up...such as when I click on the alphabet tag, which should have 10-15 alphabets in it, only one will come up. If I try to once again import the paper, alphabet, etc to place it in the chosen tag I am told it already exists. I cannot find the missing tags anywhere! H_E_L_P!!

A couple of things to check:
- Make sure you have all media types selected in View > Media Types.
- Make sure that View > Hidden Files > Show All Files is selected.
- Before clicking on a tag, make sure you've done Show All (to ensure no other tag is also selected).
If those don't help, try File > Catalog > Repair.

It's way too early to think about reinstalling PSE!
First, to repair your catalog, do File > Catalog. Then in the lower left of the Catalog Manager window, click on your catalog, and then click Repair.
Next, for hidden files, my apologies, I gave instructions for PSE 7. For PSE 6, just click on the View menu and make sure the Hidden Files item is checked. If it isn't, just select Hidden Files. It should look like this (click on the screen shot to see full size):

And then make sure all the View > Media Types are checked -- it should look like this:
http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1MefeYqaug3yEC788HswVxHnNmcN6P_thumb.png (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1MefeYqaug3yEC788HswVxHnNmcN6P)
If some of the media types are not checked, just click on each in turn.
Regarding the Show All button, it appears in the "find bar", below the top menu bar, whenever you're showing search results, e.g. when you've clicked on a keyword tag. See this screen shot for an example:

If you don't see Show All, then that just means you're not currently doing a search.
One more thing to do: Find > Clear Date Range (in case you set a date range for searches). If it's greyed out, that's ok.
Does any of this make a difference?

In case you have not already done this, close all your open applications and restart your computer. Then only open Photoshop Elements and check your organizer again. I recently had a problem with certain commands yielding the results I knew they were supposed to, and after restarting everything was good again.
Also, if you have any antivirus or system scanning tools, run those too just to make sure you're starting with a "clean machine".
Good Luck

Rebooting is always a good thing to try. Assuming that doesn't work, I'm afraid your symptoms don't match anything I've heard of before. Unless someone has a more focused suggestion matching your symptoms, I'd suggest these generic troubleshooting steps, in order:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Troubleshooting_Organizer_crashes
You could skip #4 and #5. Adobe's steps include reinstalling in simplified mode (with anti-virus and other services disabled). But I have to say that I'm skeptical any of these will help.
