It should be under applications if it installed correctly. At the beginning of the installation process it should have asked you to select the location to install. Pick the main hard drive, not an external. One caveat with adobe on a mac, must uninstall, not just drag to the trash.

As Linda said it should be in applications ... you will see an folder in there (blue with a camera on it) double click on that then you will see a blue circle again with a camera on it.

Single click on that and hold the mouse button down ... then drag it into the Dock. You will then be able to open Elements from the Dock by double clicking on the icon :)

If you can't find it do a spotlight search for photoshop elements 6, that should show you where it was installed.
Once you find it click twice on the icon to launch.
If it didn't install in your application folder then move it.

The mac is easier to use than a windows PC believe it or not.....lol. But the problem is most people have been so ingrained in using windows that you have to un-learn all that windows has done to you.

In your case it seems like something has been corrupted for whatever reason. Make sure you un-install elements. Just bringing it to the trash might not remove everything. Put the elements install dvd in, and launch the un-installer. Once you've un-installed you can move on.

First off, anytime you are installing something new or downloading a program to install do yourself a favor and try to clean up the system a bit. It's like cheap insurance. Also when you're downloading anything, don't touch the computer at all while it's working. When you use a computer while it's downloading or installing a program, there is a small chance something might get corrupted. Don't even touch the mouse, just let it do it's thing.

1. Re-boot the computer.

2. Repair permissions. To do this go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. Once there look to the left side of the screen. Click Macintosh HD. Then towards the bottom right, click where it says 'repair permissions'. Let it do it's thing. If nothing had to be repaired in the center box, you're done. If anything had to be corrected, click repair permissions again.

3. Now that you've repaired you're permissions try to install elements again.

4. Once you've installed elements, repair permissions again. You should repair both before and after you install programs. Again cheap insurance.

The mac calls all it's programs applications. So that's where you'll find elements. Applications>adobe elements>adobe elements.

Once you launch elements, you'll see the icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen. It's the blue circle with a camera in it. If you right click(control click if you have a one button mouse), a little sub menu comes up, and you can click keep in dock. Then it'll stay in the dock even when you close elements, so you don't have to go through applications.

I hope that does the trick.
