Hello all,
New to the forums here with a quick question.
Last night I tried to create an MPEG file from a project I had created. I dont recall changing any settings from the defaults when you select MPEG in the SHARE window. When it created the mpeg file and I played it, there was no sound at all.
If I create an AVI there is sound. When I uploaded the video to youtube, there was sound.
I need to get this thing burned to some DVDs before the holidays too, and i am hoping the sound issue won't be there.
Anyone know why it might have been goofed up in the MPEG export?
Thanks.

Add on....
Please go into detail as to this Project that you exported via Share/MPEG?
Formats, times,... You mentioned using export default "MPEG" settings. Please recheck and name the settings that you used under MPEG.
What Premiere Elements project preset did you use to bring the Project's content into Premiere Elements?
Where did the Project's content come from?
How long is this project? I would prefer to learn about the quality (video/audio) of the Burn To Disc DVD-VIDEO as soon as possible.

I am using Premiere Elements 7. Full paid for version.
From the beginning i think.
I recorded the video on a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 and finalized it on the camera. I then stuck the DVD from teh handycam in the DVD drive on my PC.
Since it was DVD video I used the Get Media from DVD option.
I edited the video to the state that I was happy with then hit Share\PC.
I selected MPEG in the top option window.
On the Advanced tab I left everything at "NTSC DVD Standard" preset.
Here is all the info it shows on the main Share tab for the statistics:
Description: Movie for playback on this PC\DVD player for USA, Japan.
TV Standard: NTSC
File Type: MPEG2-DVD
Frame size: 720 X 480
Frame Rate (fps): 29.97 drop frame
Audio Layer: Dolby Digital Stereo
Audio Format: Dolby Digital
File Size: 642.5 MB
Duration: 14 Min, 13.0 Sec
IF you need anything else please ask

add on to add on....
When you said AVI, did you mean DV AVI? If so, how did you generate it? And, what did you use for playback?
When you said that you played back the mpeg and got no sound, what was the file extension of the file that you got as the export? And, what did you use for playback?
Before you try Burn to Disc, I would need to know what format on the Timeline you are burning to disc.

Yes, when i said AVI i meant DV AVI, i created it with the DV AVI option in the Share\PC menu.
I played it back on Windows Media Player 11.
The MPEG file has a file extension of .mpg and I used Media player for that too.
Format on the Timeline....
Not sure 100% what you mean by that but when I click Timeline it shows the filename of the file I imported: VTS_01_1.VOB [A]

I am just wondering if your Windows Media Player lacks the codec to playback MPEG-2 which is what your created via Share/Personal Computer/MPEG/NTSC DVD Standard. That MPEG-2 is not DVD-VIDEO, but just an MPEG-2 file that would need to be converted to DVD-VIDEO.
Please create a DVD-VIDEO (standard or widescreen) from this Timeline VOB that gave you no sound when you did the playback of its MPEG-2 Export. Then let me know how that plays (video/audio) on your TV/DVD player as well as with Windows Media Player 11.

you were totally right. I created a DVD last night and tried to watch it on the PC and got no sound. I tried it in a real DVD player this morning and it did have sound. So apparently I am missing the codec for Media Player 11 to do MPEG 2 and DVD Video sound.
Do you know which codec it is that I need?
Thanks.

I am still with Windows Media Player 10 and have not had any problems with its DVD-VIDEO playback, so I do not know the following first hand. I found this link that looks like it has the answers that you are looking for:

Happy Holidays.
