Boy I am glad I found this forum!

I am using PE 7.0. Just recently bought a HD camera and trying to get my final mpeg file to stop skipping after rendering. I have used earlier versions and a DV camera and don't know if this issue is part figuring out 7.0 or because of using a HDV camera.

I have no problems importing the clips, putting them in the timeline and making it all work. It only happens when I go to export it to a mpeg.

Any advice would be apppreciated.

Thank, Howard

Howard,

Before we invoke a conversion of your mpeg to DV AVI and bringing the DV AVI version into the Timeline, let us look at your situation in more detail.

1. What is the make and model of your camcorder? How are you transferring the video from camcorder to computer and Premiere Elements 7. Is there any 5.1 channel sound involved in this video. Once I know all that I know video format and can try to figure out what is going on.

2. Premiere Elements 7 details that are needed: what project preset are you setting at Welcome Screen/Setup when your open Premiere Elements 7? You talk of rendering and skipping. Are you are talking about Rendering the Timeline (in Edit Mode of Premiere Elements 7) by pressing the Enter key of the main keyboard and then viewing the video in the Monitor where you see "skipping"? If so, could detail "skipping". Do you mean leaving out scenes, jittery images, etc.? Or, are you talking about "skipping" after you export the video to one of the export routes, such as .wmv or DVD-VIDEO?

Let us start there and see where that takes us.

ATR,

Thanks for your response. I am not at home so I might not be able to give all the correct answers until later but I can skim across a few.

I just purchased the camera about a month and a half ago. Its the SONY HDR-SR12. Images are put into Premier directly out of the camera via USB connection and right into program. This is no problem nor minipulating the images in the timeline. Even playing them in real time doesn't seem to be an issue.

Once I am completed with a project I go to export it. It then opens a dialog box to render it. Once rendering is done it makes the project into a mpeg. When I play the mpeg it skips during playback.

I believe that I selected 5.1 somewhere along the line when I set everything up. How does that effect things?

If I am not mistaken, can't you open up the properties box and makes changes to the settings? I don't remember this being something that I see everytime I boot up the program.

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks again.

If all is going as you say, I suspect a "Reverse Field Dominance" issue or export issue, but read through my comments anyway.

I did some homework on your Sony HDR-SR12 and this is what I found (correct me if any of my details do not agree with yours):

You have a Hard Drive Camcorder that can record to SD or HD. For the SD set, the camcorder records to the hard drive as MPEG-2; and, for the HD set, the camcorder records to the hard drive as AVCHD (1440 x 1080i50). So, what is your recording mode SD or HD? The mix is iced over with 5.1 channel sound with which Premiere Elements can have problems if the video has 5.1 channel sound OR a project preset with 5.1 channel sound is mistakenly used OR etc.

What are you using for the Project Presets?

If SD, the one for Hard Drive and Flash Memory Camcorders, Standard or Widescreen? If SD but not using this project preset, once you get the video into the Premiere Elements Timeline, are you right clicking the video, selecting Field Options, and the dotting the "Reverse Field Dominance"?

If HD, the one under AVCHD for HD 1080i30 with 5.1 channel sound (that represents the 1440 x 1080 with the anamorphic pixel aspect ratio to get to 1920 x 1080). If you have the "Full" 1920 x 1080, then try under AVCHD the Full HD 1080i30 with 5.1 channel sound. If you have figured out a way to switch the 5.1 channel to 2 channel sound, then just use these same project presets without "5.1 channel sound" tacked on to the title.

What are your export details, other than your end product that is skipping is has an .mpg extension.

But, with all that being said, please describe this skipping in more detail and try this Reverse Field Dominance fix mentioned above. Premiere Elements Fields are typically Lower Field First, but Hard Drive Camcorder ends up the Fields Upper Field First that need to be reverse in either of two ways.

To be continued with more of your details....

(Also be on guard how Premiere Elements 7 is handling the presence of 5.1 sound. That usually ends up on tracks above 3. More on that later, if necessary.)
