First post in here (long-time  lurker).

I know there is a link somewhere around which explains where to place all the files to make Grants Tools work in PE6 on Vista.
Would someone mind pointing me in the general direction please? Have spent the past hour or so fruitlessly wandering around here and a notorious search engine.

Thanks in advance.

Herb.

Hi Herb ..

... and welcome to the Village :)

Hey you live at Macc ... I used to work at Knutsford !!

If you download Grants Tools for PSE6 from Grant's site ...
http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/Files.html

then the install instructions are in a read me in the folder.

Wendy :)

Here they are:

MAC.

Open the actions and pngs folder and place all the items that are in it in this folder:

Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects

Next open the xml files folder and place all the items that are in it in this folder:

Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US or your own locale>Photo Creations Metadata>Photo Effects

Next rename the Mediadatabase.db3 to MediadatabaseOLD.db3 (it is located at Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US) and restart Elements ... the Mediadatabase.db3 will rebuild but you may have to wait a while for it to do so

The thing that hung me up for a while (on every computer, no-I didn't learn), and do remember, is to make sure that you are "showing hidden files". Otherwise you will look for the folders and not find them!

Morning Wendy.

Small world huh?

Thanks for the quick response. I did consult the readme file but sadly in Vista all the paths are different to what is given in there (on my machines anyway).

Runs off to try something else...

Right, I've gone in a different way via Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\photo effects\.

Runs off again...

Similar path for the Mediadatabase.db3 file - Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en_us.

Hmm. Now, how can I tell if it has worked?

Herb

 Yup! All fine and dandy.

Maybe the file paths will be of use to other folks.

Thanks for the help Wendy.

[P.S. Knutsford is still an expensive place to live].

Hi Herb ...

Sorry about that ... the path for Vista is listed right at the bottom of the list.

It says Vista is C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0 ... etc

I think thats the same as the way you found it.

Wendy
PS ... I never did manage to afford to live in Knutsford  I worked at Radbroke Hall just outside it.

Typical fella - hopeless at instructions. :D

Barclays eh?
Been there a few times myself, in a previous life.

Herb.
[No doubt will be back with more questions].

Hi, I had trouble installing Grants Tools to Elements 6 until I found a very helpful video on Youtube. Just search "Grants Tools" and you will find a video by Jacks Tech Corner.
I had to watch it a few times to figure it out but...I was successful!
