I'm trying to add a continuous soundtrack to a 5 minute video I'm making from a 30 second music jingle a friend downloaded for me from her computer and I'm having problems with it. The vid is 5 minutes long and the music jingle is only 30 seconds and I want to click and drag to copy the 30 second score enough times to last the entire length of the vid. I've copied it to my project board and clicked and dragged it into place at the first part of my vid once and it works fine. Problem is when I click and drag it again from the project board. What it does when I try to place the second sound clip at the end of the first one is it divides the video in the timeline and leaves a gap I can't close but the 2nd soundtrack clip is placed where I want it and does not have a gap, just the video in the timeline now has a gap I can't close unless I delete the 2nd soundtrack clip OR place it in a staggered/ alternating pattern in another audio track. Can I not have all the soundtrack on one line without the vid in the timeline separating?

There is another thread in this forum "somewhere" where we discussed this.
Hold down the Alt key as you drag your audio to the Soundtrack. It works. Some people invoke the Ctrl key for issues such as these, but the Alt key works for me in these situations, so that is the way I go.
Let us know if that works for you too.

You will get various results using the Ctrl key or the Alt key and it also depends on when you press the key and when you release it. Pressing the key before selecting a clip will have a different affect then if you press the key after selecting the clip. The same is true if you release the key before or after you drop the clip. Takes some practice to see all of the options and what it does, overlay, insert, overwrite, ...
Watch the mouse cursor, it changes depending on what key you press and when ;)

CE,
Did you see that I included a link to a prior thread where you contributed your thoughts on "locked tracks?

Knowledge is power, so it is important to absorb as much as possible and then decide what works for you. BUT, I still maintain that, for the job described, a simple holding down of the ALT key while you drag the audio to the soundtrack will avoid the issue that you presented. Plain and simple in this case. Other considerations may come into play for OTHER situations which then should be judged in the contexts of the situation. That is my opinion.
