Brushes Disapper/Dobbled/Corupt *CRY

I have been useing 5 for a long time now and I do DL new brushes all the time. I organize them and stuff.

I have noticed with XP or Vista that sometimes I see doubles of my brushes so I delete them. OK But when the next time I get on I see more doubles.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Now I know I go threw my list over and over and over so I know there ant' no doubles but I keep seeing them differrent ones each time.

It is that EL5 is reading them wrong?

or

it is over righting them it's self?

anyone have this trouble? or Know a solution?

I've downloaded a gazzillion brushes and I keep them in a folder named Extra Brushes, loading them through the brush picker as I need them. I've never had any of them duplicate.

Where are you keeping your brushes and how are you organizing them?

I keep them in the

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Presets\Brushes

I have my own folder for them

a basic folder and I rename them like this:

I have pse5 and when I use a brush, it appears again at the bottom of the list. There's a line and then the list starts over. I don't know if that happens to you, but when I close pse it goes back to normal. For some odd reason when I use a brush either in the list or load it, it gets relisted. It does nothing and does not create a duplicate brush in windows.

Also I keep all my brushes located elsewhere and not in pse. It does take as long to load it then and I keep just as organized as you do. I just load them when I need them by navigating to where they are located at.

Well I still can't seem to figure this out. It also happened when I alter the groups of brushes.

Anyone have any clues?

It is bothing me so much.

Even when I make new brushes and save them in the program they seem to merge or over lap other brushes and what seems like dobbles.

I go threw them and I belive that I am deleteing brushes that are ok

You have this brush set of dots, you use the dots slot to make some new brushes say, hearts.

When your done you save the heart and rename it to something different than the dots.

after your done you open the brush preview pane and POOF the next set of dots is also hearts now the ones you just made.

If you make a heart brush and you are currently in the dot brushes it will show there, then you saved the heart brush as something else. If you go to a different set of brushes does it say Do you want to save changes to the current set of brushes? Before closing. Maybe you are clicking yes.

I don't know how much more to explane it. When I merged to brush sets together and save it with the preset manger. I closed the program then reopen it and POOF BG Blood is now the same EZACT THING as my sig brush

I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT OVER THIS.

I can't use 6 or 7 becuse the scroll wheel will not work when looking threw my 700 brushes.

I will not use an outside program to look they my brushes .......................STUPIED

I NEED TO SEE the thumbnails in order to pick the ones I want to use.

You eather use all keyboard or all mouse I like the mouse. I refuse to use the page up and down for looking thew them all it takes my hand off my mouse.

Dose this make any sence?



Any time I edit my brushes in any way

add new
delete and save
merge

The new set will overlap on exsiting set cuseing it to look like a dobble

Sorry you are so frustrated, Mari. Let me see if I understand what you want to do now.

You have two sets of brushes, one named BG Blood 1 and one named Sig Brushes (or something to that effect) and both sets have your sig brushes in it, and you want to get the BG Blood 1 brushes back, is that right?

Your best bet would be to delete the one brush set that is named BG Blood 1 containing your sig brushes, then download the blood brushes again and put them in the preset folder.

In the future be very careful when using the Preset Manager. When you wish to save a set or combined set of brushes, Ctrl-Click on each brush you want to save in a that set, to select them. Then when you click the Save Set button make sure at the bottom of the Save window you give the set a new name, not the same as any other brush set you have.

If this isn't what you wanted to know, please explain it further. Good luck.

Yes that would work but only for so long. and it is not just the PManger

Ok let me explain in details a bit more.


1= I download the brush "Pixel Hearts from Terry5425" form the internet.

2= I open it up if it needs to be exstracted from zip

3= I like my brushes to be very oprganized so I rename "Pixel Hearts from Terry5425" to "Hearts1"

4= So after I rename it I place it in my folder:
C/Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 5.0/Presets/Brushes/Mary Brushes

After I copy the brush into the folder all is fine, i open EL I can see it and works great

So I have about 300 or so brushes in my folder and I feel like DLing some more

So I do steps 1-4 with all of the new brushes and a have made sure that I named then in order so that the new brushes DO NOT WRITE OVER the old ones.

So after I place them into the folder I open up EL and check them out. Well I now see that "Hearts1" has thumbnails that show Flowers?!?!?!?!?!

NO WAY!

So some how in the process of eather"


Moveing the new brushes over

or


Loading the Program


The program hads desided to copy over "Hearts1" with the new brush "Flowers23"
So now it looks like a dobble of "Flowers23"

I have come to the concluetion that it dose this everytime:


I add new brushes
Make New brushes
Edit Old/New brushes


I have gone threw this prosess about 6 times allready. Befor I relized what it is doing.

I mean it is dead obvious that it is the program becuse you just put the brush in there and you put some new ones and POOF the thumbnail preview is flowers instead of hearts?

just like my image I showed above. That ant' Blood. I had just messed around the the SIG brushes and POOF Blood was over lapped


Yes I can get the brushes again but it would take forever as I have over 700 brushes and they are from everywhere

I tell ya what though I WILL be backing them up from now on.

I was wondering if there was a patch for EL5 for a BUG like this. Or mabey EL5 don't run well on Vista?

Hi Blackimari, as you are having so many problems with brushes, have you considered keeping some of them in a folder on your hard drive.
For me --- I do not want to scroll through Holiday brushes (Christmas, Valentines Day, Halloween, etc) all the time.
Stuff I do only use once a year, or seldom does not get loade into PSE.
They sit in a folder and I go load them when I need them.
I think loading too much stuff into the program makes it sluggish.
And it is just as handy as if they were loaded into presets
And I do have lots and lots of brushes and fonts and other stuff that does not get loaded into the program
I'm trying to keep it lean and fast,

Well as that is a good idea and all. I don't really have any certain ones I can put aside as I make wallpapers and photo fixes with all my brushes.

yes I mightnot use some this time but i will the next time and so on.

It is like ok today i will have toast for breakfast and then i will puit the toaster away becuse I don't need it for the rest of the day. but tomarrow morning I will have toast again so i would have to bring it back out.

POINTLESS just leave it out right?

I apresheate your advise and I will do that if I get A TON but

i am really looking for a way to fix this problem without have to load and unload everytime I use them, which is mostly all day.

(i work from home, computer graphix design)
