This is great news! I was feeling bad about stirring up interest in a nonexistent item. I think you'll really like it.

Hi Charles, you're most than welcome! I ordered it tonight from Hoodman and there was a shipping charge of $11.55. I forgot to check amazon. Probably they have better shipping rates.

I just went thru the 'order process' to check out the shipping from Amazon, For me living in Indiana the shipping will be $8.00. So you paid an additional $3.55, not really a bad deal as you will get it before I do! :o

Charles, not yet. I've been tracking the parcel through UPS (it's coming from California); the predicted delivery date is Monday, 15.
I went to amazon to check the hood you mentioned. From reading the description I understand what it is for. But now I have a lame question. (What is new? By now you are used to my questions.:) ) I have an UV filter on my 18-55, and then sometimes I'll be using the polarizer filter. Does the hood fit on top of these filters?
Between you and me, I'm so happy my dh doesn't see my credit card bills.:D Between plug-ins for PSE7 and accessories for my new toy, it's "Sepiana gone wild."
EDIT: Tuesday evening I ordered that DVD you recommended - Canon Rebel XSI Crash Course by Michael Andrew. I received it today -- that's what I call fast service. It goes without saying that I'm singing "Heaven, I'm in Heaven."

Sepiana,
You will have your Hoodman this Monday, or 2 days.... no 1 1/2 days from now! Cool.
If the lens hood for the 18-55 attaches the same way the lens hood does I have for my 70-300, then no it will not attach on top of the Polarizing Filter. I don't know how to describe this very well. The Lens hood does not screw in the threads at the end of the lens, or other filters.
On the outside of the lens, and at the very end of the lens you will see 3 ridge thingies. The lens hood attaches to these things. You can actually reverse the lens hood on this putting it on backwards for storage if you want to. That way it does not protrude outward while it is in the camera bag. I hope you can understand what I am trying to describe here.
I do hope you like the DVD you now have, and are able to learn a few things about the camera from Michael Andrews. He is a very special guy. There are very few people in this world like him. His service to me was exceptional.
What is your dh's email?? Sounds like I should send him an email and let him know about your cc bills! <grin>
Just Kidding!! :p

Could someone please explain what this Hoodman thingy does??

Chuck, its a loupe for viewing your lcd screen. It blocks out all light, has a dioptic adjustment and slight magnification. Really nice for those sunny days when you just can't see the screen to review your shots.

Chuck,
You can also order the Hoodman Hoodloupe thru B&H or Amazon, and I am sure other places as well.
I was just now re-looking at the Hoodman website, and noticed another gadget they have (but are out of stock on) that is intriguing, and I THINK I may like it, the HoodEYE (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/products.asp?dept=1061). I am just wondering if anyone here has one of these eye piece units? (Maybe I should start a new thread for this question?)

Charles, I saw that, and I would find one of those to be more useful than the Hoodloupe. I was all set to order one ($30), but they're out of stock. Not surprising....!

Chuck,
I was also wondering about their Right Angle Viewer (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/products.asp?dept=1018). I am wondering how the quality of their viewer would compare to Canon's, being it is less than 1/2 price (Canon $280 vs. Hoodman $130. Canon @ Amazon = $190)
I have tinkered with the idea of SOMEDAY getting on of these, but not really sure how much I would really use it.
I have really gotten hit with the JOM syndrome

Charles,
Thanks! I think all this shopping is wearing down my already aging brain. I still have the old 70-300mm lens for the XT, although it's at the store to be evaluated for a possible trade-in. I could've checked with my dh; he was the one in charge of changing lenses and placing the hood on. I don't believe I ever did it.:o
...What is your dh's email?? Sounds like I should send him an email and let him know about your cc bills! <grin>
Just Kidding!! :p
And I thought you were my friend!;)
Now, what about some more accessories for your XSi? Check this thread (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42876) (if you haven't done it yet):D

Chuck,
I just sent Hoodman an email asking about the HoodEye. When I hear back from them I will let you know when they expect to have them back in stock.
I also asked if they were SURE their product would fit the XSi. The Canon standard eyepiece extender does not fit the XSi. Canon had to make a new one to fit the XSi, so I want to be absolutely positive the HoodEye will fit the XSi before I order one.

I got a reply back today on the HoodEye.
Hi Charles,
The HoodEye's have been designed with the same attachment our Right Angle Viewer uses to attach to your camera, which has never had a problem attaching to the Canon XSI cameras. There will be no problem with the Hood attaching to your camera. Please use part # H-EYEC18 if you decide to purchase one. If you do have any problems, we guarantee our products for 30 days after purchasing.
I do not have a definite date on when these will come in, but we are expecting them next month. I have added your contact information to our list, and we will contact you as soon as we have them available.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Kind Regards,
Tracy Osborn

Today I got 2 packages from UPS; One with the HoodLoupe, the other has the Giotto's Rocket Blaster. (still waiting on my EW-60C lens hood)
The HoodLoupe is a much simpler design from what I expected, but it does seem to work very well!

Hi Charles, it didn't take long! Isn't it a nifty gadget? I had the same impression when I opened the box; I was expecting a set of instructions in English, French, German, etc., etc. So simple and yet it works!:)
