Hi,
I am using elements 2.0 and am having problems playing back burned DVDs on MCE2005. They work fine on stand alone players and on other PCs running XP. I have burned DVDs in the past with PE2 directly to disc and can play them in MCE2005 just fine. Not sure what happened.
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks
Jim

RE: Premiere Elements 2, DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc
Playback: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
The easiest first approach is to look to the disc.
1. If you take a DVD-VIDEO (not home made) does it play via your Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005?
2. Do you still have any of those Premiere Elements 2 created-DVD-VIDEOs that you created in the past and that played on this system? If so, do any of them still play on this system?
3. What type of DVD disc does your system support? Have you changed Brand or Type? "Then" did you use and "Now" are you still using DVD-R?
4. Exactly how are you burning your Premiere Elements 2 content to a DVD disc? Are you using "Burn to Disc" or "Burn to Folder", followed by burning the folder's VIDEO_TS to a DVD with another software such as Nero (Burn Video Files route)?
Let us start here and see where that takes us.

Add on........
Please elaborate in detail re: "having problems playing back"....
Examples: Are you getting messages? If so, what are they saying? Do these current Premiere 4 created-DVD-VIDEOs play back partially and then stop? Or, do they play back with distortion of video and/or audio? What kind of Timeline markers have you used and how many? Etc.Etc.Etc.

Sorry, here is some more detail.....
When I put the DVD in the MCE2005 it comes up with "create CD/DVD" message. Looks like MCE thinks it is a blank disc
Commercial DVDs play without issue as well as DVDs I created about 4 months ago with Premeire Elements 2.0
Still using -R discs and the same brand as before.
I have been using the burn to disc option.
Editing machine:
P4 3.2 CPU, 3 Gb Ram, nvidia 7600GS, 3 drives lots of space
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR109
MCE2005 Machine:
P4 3.0 CPU, 2 Gb Ram, nvidia 8500GT, 2 Drives lots of space
Lite on DVD Player
Thanks ATR...

a little more.....
The DVDs that will not play on MCE will play on other PCs and stand alone players.
I am also creating menus with 4-6 using scene markers.

First thing to do is to look for a firmware upgrade for the DVD player/burner on the MCE machine.

Jim,
I need for you to do some mini (very mini) test runs. Create one of your DVD menus (one AutoPlay, one with the exact same DVD Menu Template used in this troubled situation, and one with a different menu than in the troubled situation). Compare playback of all three.
Also look at the results with and without the Scene Markers in the last two test variations suggested above.
Please name the DVD Menu Template that you have been using for this project as well as the alternate one that I am suggesting that you try. Also, have you used the DVD Menu Template (trouble situation) before?

Chuck,
I flashed the firmware about 8 days ago on the MCE machine. (Lite on) It did not seem to have any effect.
ATR,
I used a 10 min tv sample for my test.
I convert the ms files to mpg with Cyberlink
I then import to a new project in Elements
I have been using General/6 button black for my menu template w/scene markers...trouble and good ones No motion in the menus.
Tests:
I used the autoplay with 2 markers...same results
I used the birthday template without markers...same results
I used the movietime template with markers(2)...same results
MCE stills sees the disc as blank. I loaded PowerDVD and it plays fine.
I do appreciate the time you guys are spending on this. It is most likely some setting that I am failing to change..just can't remember what it is.
CRS is a real pain.
Thanks
Jim
P.S. Do you think it maybe that the booktype has changed? Where can you set that on Elements?

Jim,
Do you know what the player is in Windows Media Center Edition 2005? Is it Windows Media Player 10 or 11? I found a great Microsoft article for troubleshooting DVD playback in Window Media Player, but I am not sure what the player is in your Windows version.
I did not understand what you meant by booktype.

Take a look at this link on the MPEG2 Video Decoder. Maybe it could help you in your troubleshooting.

Please let me know if this approach works out for you.

Just want to make sure if I am clear on what you just wrote:
For DVD-VIDEO playback with your Windows XP Media Center Edition, you are using a "Nvidea Player". Is Nvidea Player = "Pure Video Decoder" from Nvidea?
If so, have you tried troubleshooting the decoder with info from the Nvidea site, maybe including updating driver?
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=tVaRsqlj&p_lva=&p_li=&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_page=1&p_cv=1.60&p_pv=1.4&p_prods=4&p_cats=60&p_hidden_prods=&prod_lvl1=4&cat_lvl1=60&p_search_text=&srch_btn_submit=%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0Search%C2%A0%C2% A0%C2%A0&p_new_search=1&p_search_type=answers.search_nl
Was there a Window Media Player that came with your Window XP Media Center Edition and played back DVD-VIDEO? If so, does it still work while the Nvidea Player does not? Another if so, how long have you been using the Nvidea Player instead of the Window Media Player? Any conflicts of drivers?
Right now I cannot explain a scenario to match all your details, but check out the above to see if there is anything there that may be a key to resolution.
