Like many others, I am in the PLEASE HELP mode. I want to make fixed circular crops without any background so that when it appears on my desktop after I save it, the image is just the circle... not one with a rectangular area behind it. I was able to do that with ArcSoft 2000, but this must be possible with PSE7. How can this be done? Thanks.

Hi, If I read what you want, try using the elipise circle selection tool, hold the shift key down to get a perfect circle, then go to Select>Inverse, you should have marching ants around what you selected and around the rectangle photo... then hit backspace or delete and you should have ;lyour selection. I would do this on a duplicate layer

After you isolate your circle you need to save it as a .PNG. Jpegs don't support transparency.
You could also put your circle on it's own layer after you select it by using Ctrl+J.
Then save this as a .PSD. This format will preserve your layers. The background stays untouched and your circle keeps the tranparency.
Good luck with your project.

Another way. Use the eliptical marquee tool found under the rectangular marquee tool. Hold down the shift key when using the tool to make your selection. Control-J will put your selection on it's own layer.

Hi M.

You can create images with transparent backgrounds in Elements in a few different ways and if you save them in PNG format, then use them later in another image, the background will still be transparent.

If there is a way for an image to show up on your desktop with a transparent background, I'm not aware of it. Are you using a Mac? Perhaps that feature is available on a Mac.

You can easily make crops in any of the custom shapes included in Elements, using the Cookie Cutter tool.

Choose the Cookie Cutter tool by pressing Q on your keyboard.

At the top of the workspace, in the options bar, click the dropdown arrow next to where it says Shape, with a small icon of a shape, and you'll see the shapes in the current shape set.

On the right side of that dropdown shape picker, is a small double arrowhead. If you click on that, you'll get a flyout menu with more shape sets to choose from. If you choose the set simply called "Shapes," there is a circle in that set.

After selecting the shape you want to crop with, drag with your left mouse button depressed over the area you wish to crop. When you release the mouse button, the shape will be cut, then click the green arrow to commit the crop.

To save the cropped image, from the menu: File > Save As and at the bottom of the Save As dialog, where it says Format, click on the dropdown arrow and select PNG as the file format before saving.

I have a similar question, I am trying to also get a circle crop using the cookie cutter tool, all I want is the face from a picture but then I also want it to be in a 1 inch diameter size so I can put it on a bottle cap to make into a necklace.

Any ideas how to do this ( I would also want to print it so what format do I save it in so I can bring it to a photoshop place to print.

I am a beginner so if you tell me the steps involved please keep that in mind.

Thank you all.
