I just purchased version 7.0 and searched for the "new pencil tool" that appears on the advertising on the inside of the product jacket. I tried the obvious area such as render or sketch. Can anyone tell me where to find it?
I used the photocopy tool in earlier versions to make pencil type sketches but assume that the pencil sketch tool does it better. Thank you.

You'll find it under Guided Edit>Photographic Effects>Line Drawing. It does a pretty good job but doesn't give you much control over the resultant line drawing. If you want total control take a look at the Topaz Simplify beta (there's a thread about it down in Helpful Links.)

Thank you. The effect that I am trying to create is to turn a photo into a pencil type, black and white drawing so that when printed, my grandchildren can use it as a coloring book of their own faces etc.
When I used Elements version 4, I clicked on the photocopy tool and that did it. Now in 7.0, using the photocopy tool, I get a screen that shows the outline but it is an all black background with blue for the lines.
I simply want a white background with a black "line drawing" Maybe it is me but I am not crazy about version 7.0 What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the default black and white colors are set first. Photocopy uses whatever you tell it to use for background and foreground colors.

Sorry for so many questions but 7.0 does not seem to be as intuitive as 4.0.
The pencil sketch mode does not appear to be what I want to achieve. So back to the old method using photocopy.
In the past, I just clicked on photocopy and it came up as white background with black outline. I adjusted contrast and got the desired result in just one or two easy steps. Now in 7.0 when I click on photocopy, the background is black which is not what I want.
Please tell me how to set the default color so that background is white and lines are black (the reverse of what I am getting now)
Thank you

Just press D to get your default colors to Black and White.
Here is a link to a tutorial to give a sketch effect. This can give you what you want and have a bit more control rather than with a click of a button,

I sure appreciate the above help. On the Box for Elements 7 is a picture of a Pencil Sketch, but I have looked for 5 days trying to find it in the program!

Ivey,
It is under Guided, Photographic Effects, Line Drawing at the very bottom of the list. I have not used it much but ran into it the other day.
