Hi
Been a while since I've posted on this board.

Ok, i've been using Premiere 3.0 for months on a new PC with no problems.

A while ago it crashed, actually thats a bit overstated, it simply vanished from my screen while I was working on it.

I re-opened it and it appeared to have resorted back to factory settings with the sceneline instead of the timeline.

A few seconds later I got the following message:

"Sorry a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. we will attempt to save your project."

It kept crashing in exactly the same way each time I opened it, regardless of whether i was opening an existing project or creating a new one.

I tried installing the 3.02 patch, rebooted, tried again, exactly the same result.

I completely uninstalled the 3.02 patch and PE 3.0, rebooted, reinstalled PE 3.0. I tried to run it, exactly the same problem is occuring.

Nothing I seem to do will stop it running for a few seconds and then crashing with the
"Sorry a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. we will attempt to save your project."
message.

I am running windows XP on an intel Core2Quad 4-core 6600 with 8MB cache. I have 4GB DDR2/800 RAM and 1.5TB of hard drive space on 4 drives - so I am assuming it is not an underpowered computer issue!

I have an urgent video job I am trying to complete so this couldn't have happened at a worse time

any advice appreciated

cheers
Rick

Rick,

Since you say that you have been running your new system with Premiere Elements 3 for a while with no problems, I am left to ask:

1. Does your computer need to be optimized, defragmented, ccleaner'd, etc., you know the drill?

2. About the time that the crashes started, do you recall any changes in the system, such as upgrade in Service Pack, addition of new software, etc.

3. Does your computer system have a System Restore feature and has it been on all this time from good to bad? If so, have you tried a System Restore to a time when you remember your Premiere Elements 3 running OK on your new computer.

To be continued...........

Hi ATR
Thanks for the reply.

There were no recent updates / changes that I know of, although the PC has been slowing down lately - lots of hesitations before running programs etc.

I have decided I am going to do a complete hard drive wipe and a new installation of windows. Hopefully that should do the trick. (I'm overdue for one anyway)

If you don't hear back from me, assume it has fixed the problem.

Cheers

Rick

Rick,

I would definitely include the Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Update after you install Premiere Elements 3. It may be contributing to performance issues beyond Vista compatibility.

However, the main reason for my post is to remind you of the AdobeTech Note which addresses your type of problem. Have you read this one before?

If you had not said your system with Premiere Elements 3 worked BEFORE, it would be appropriate to look into other issues. But, for now, with your present description of your issue, I would suggest that you check out the above link before you start taking on your computer's hard drive and such.
