Hi Carol ... :)

As promised here is a link to a snowglobe tutorial. They are pretty complicate to make but once you have made one you can save it as a layered file and them just slip images into it.

This tut was written for PS6 but most of it is do-able in Elements .. let me know if you need any workarounds :)

Thanks so much, Wendy:)

Do you think I can use the MacMerq sphere overlay for this?

Can't wait to try this!

Hi Carol ...

I don't think that it would work on this one ...

... Its a complicated tut but I did it when I was still fairly new to Elements and someone on another forum talked me through doing it :)

Hi there ...

Well you have done that well ... it looks great !!

To make something like the other one you need to get into animation. With animation its best to start on something simple first so that you get a chance to understand it ... so here is a link to info on how to do simple animations:

http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/animation/animation.htm

do let us know how you go on :)

That animation would be a very simple one to do. Just duplicate the base image a couple of times and then add more twinkles to successive layers. Then save for web as a gif, check the animated box and set the frame delay to what you want the frame rate to be, check the loop box and you'll have the animation.

Hi Everyone ...

... at this stage I have to admit that I have only ever done one bit of animation ... :) :) Makes you wonder if the snowglobe could have animated snow !!

well i've entered into nutcracker season and this here nut is all cracked up. but i decided to give it a try at the snowglobe tutorial. not having the mental aptitude to try all 50+ steps i used 2 different tutorials. well this is my first attempt, i'm sure like everything else it gets better with practice

Great job Sherri. The only thing is that you have to get that base in front of the snow globe so that the globe looks like it's sitting down inside it. I like your base much better than mine! I never did have time to go back and fix it. I also like your snowflakes better. I followed the instructions of using dot looking flakes but using the start burst brush is much more realistic. (I should know, I see enough snow.) :D

Now that you've done all the hard work, it's very easy to just plug in another picture. Make sure you save your psd file and you can use it over and over. I did about 3 of them and it only took the time it took to cut out the dogs that I put in it.

Very well done Sherri and I agree with Pauline the base looks more natural than most I have seen.

Thank you for the nice comments.

So just move the base layer below the snow globe?

I think I know what you mean. I'll go give that a try.

That should do it...nice work!

Well, Pauline, I tried to move the base but something went wrong. It just disappeard. I tried it in several different locations. I think I need to go thru the tut again to see what I did wrong.

Pauline
December 8th, 2005, 07:34 PM
That should do it Sherri. Funny thing. I just got my edition of Digital Scrapper and this months feature tutorial is a snowglobe. I haven't look at it yet but I'm sure the instructions will be much easier than the ones from this one!!! Her base is much nicer too!! I'm off to check it out.

Finally got a chance to watch the snow globe video and all I can say is WOW!! And it was a lot less than the 50+ steps I went through on the other video. Can't wait to try it out, but for now it's bed time! I was happy to see the use of 'different' tools that aren't normally used.

Pauline, i'm curious.... which snowglobe tutorial did u see with less than 50 steps? i couldn't find it.

Pauline
December 9th, 2005, 11:02 AM
It's from Scrappers Guide and it's this month's tutorial. You have to be a subscriber but it's not expensive and every month you get a new newsletter with goodies. You can go to www.scrappersguide.com (http://www.scrappersguide.com) to check it out. You can sign up for the free monthly newsletter, but you don't get all the extras. You don't have to be a scrap booker to benefit. I'm not and I've learned a lot from Linda.

Hello,
Here's my try at a globe.
I'm afraid it wasn't done following Wendy's tut.
The tut came from Scrappers Guide.
Hope you like it.

Go for it Eva. It's a small investment and well worth it. We get it once a month to down load. I am glad that she taught us how to do the globe rather than just give us the finished product. I much prefer to learn now to do it. I spent a good part of this afternoon working on it!! It wasn't hard, just time consuming going through each step, stopping the movie, referring to the notes, etc. If it works okay as wallet size I might use it as my card for the seniors. If it looks too small I will have to try something else. I could just put the dog in Wendy's bauble and put a bow on it!

Hi there ...

Dpw9272 & Sherrie ... nice snowglobes especailly using such a complex tutorial. I struggled to do it and thought that some it it was done in a most complicated way. One of the troubles is that the grouping does strange things when you try to move layers around

Sounds like the one in Scrappers Guide is far better to follow and Kev you did it great !!

I agree that scrapper's guide looks easier and if I can get some time to myself this weekend I'm going to give it a shot.

wendy, you're right the grouping thing is PS2 was very confusing and when I tried to move things around it became worse. I do want to go back and try that one again but maybe next year :)

WOW Kev, that is beautiful. I can't wait to give it a try!

Wendy
December 10th, 2005, 08:37 AM
Sherrie,

I found that ut was far easier to ignore all the "group withs" and simply keep the selection active which means that the effect only shows within the selection. That way you can move things around without causing problems )
