I made a photocube today and emailed it to my daughter in the US. She has asked me if there is any way I can change it into a rotating photocube (presumably with six faces?) She said she has seen one done. Is this something that I can do? - it sounds mighty complicated to me, not beginner stuff at all:eek:

Hi there ...
Can be done but you would need to get into animation and do it that way ... I'm not good in animation :(

Bayla, while you could do it with PSE, it would be a laborious effort. There are specialty programs just for this purpose.
I can find a few pointers if you are interested.

Hi again ...
I found a simple tut on animation here:
http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/animation/animation.htm
It should give you some idea on how it works :)

Is there a quick tutorial on making a cube? I have looked in most of the turtorials and can not find one.

Here is one:

You can also use the 3D transform filter to make a cube then drag/transform images onto the sides.

Most people were using a tut from one of Scotts books either PE3 down and Dirty or PE3 for Digital Photographers. I'm sorry I left them somewhere and can't remember which book it was in.

It's in Down and Dirty page 244.

Even making a 'simple' animation looks mighty time consuming to me! Guess it's something to file away for when I've got oodles of spare time and can work undisturbed:D :D Thanks everyone for the advice though.
And yes, I used 'Down & Dirty Tricks' as my photocube tutorial. It was quite simple, but I kept having a problem when I used the rectangular marquee to cut the photo down to square size. I followed the instructions exactly but then when I went to transform so that I could put the corners into the cube, the 'handles' for reshaping on the righthand side of the picture were not along the side of the picture and I don't understand why not.

Hi there ...
I supect that you tried the distort a second time maybe when it wasn't quite right the first time ... what happens then is that the handles are on the square box around the image and not around the already distorted image itself.
The best way I have found of doing this it to do it all in one go (Edit>Undo if you don't get it right the first time) and zoom in very close so that you can get it exact.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks Wendy,
I think I must have done something like that - I undid it about six times and then suddenly it worked but I haven't a clue what I did to make it work!
I did something really stupid though - when I was drawing out the cube I couldn't see very well as it draws in bright green - I didn't realise that if you click again it shows a black cube - you should have seen me peering with my nose a couple of inches away from the screen with a ruler in my hand to see if it was square:o

Glad to have brought a little extra sunshine into your life - I could write a book entitled 'Stupid Mistakes I Have Made in PSE3' - it'd probably have you rolling on the floor!:D My problem is that I'm so eager to get on with things that I jump straight in without reading instructions first.....sometimes it works but more often than not I have to undo & undo & undo and start all over again.

I think we should have a holiday to celebrate the creator of the UNDO button.:)

Gary,
Check out this link ... you will need to scroll down to see the version history.
It wasn't until 1998 that the history palette was added before that you had to Edit>Undo ... over and over again :)
