Hi Everyone,

I am a new user. I purchased the Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book and I have been on the first chapter for a week. I know it is way beyond me right now but I want to learn. Lesson one asks me to "drag the right corner of the image window inward to reduce the window size so that only part of the image fits in the window." I can't do that. Also I can't move the tool options bar. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.
Maureen

Welcome. I've not read that book, although I've read plenty others.
Not sure why they want you to drag the window.
I don't make mine smaller. I like it full size.

The best thing to get yourself going with elements is to read posts of interest on this site. Try a couple of tutorials, just "play" with a picture and yes keep asking questions.

Sometimes after playing, when you return to the book it will make more sense.

To move that photo by dragging just grab onto the little square in the upper corner of the photo using the move tool. The move tool is the the first tool on the lilst. Left click and hold and you should be able to change the size of the photo rather easily. Just keep practicing and asking questions and you will be a pro in no time at all.

Maureen,

If your picture is the background layer you will not be able to move it. First, duplicate the image (control j), then turn off the background layer by clicking on the eye of the background layer. Make sure you activate the move tool (the first one on the left). Now click on the duplicate picture which should be layer one. Now you should have handles on the corners of your picture in the workspace that you can click on and drag.

Hope this helps.

If I understand your question correctly ---- the right corner is the lower right corner of the image --- or you can go to View -- Zoom out. That will also reduce the size of the image window.

For the tool options---go to Window---Tool Options. Check or uncheck

Hang in there --- :)

Maureen,

Is the book you purchased for Photoshop or Elements? If not for Elements, I would highly recommend the "Missing Manual" for whatever version you have.
