(I posted this question on Advanced Elements previously)

Background:
Many of my Version Sets contain various crops from the same original that I like. I have over 200 Version Sets.

Questions:
How do I copy only the selected cropped photos that I like from all my Version Sets to a CD (without copying all the members of each version set)?

Is there any way to extract selected members of a version set back into the main organizer?

Thanks,

Russ: Welcome to the forum and I'll attempt an answer, although I haven't used version sets much. I do however have Organize Your Photos with PSE3 by Michael Slater (an Adobe guy involved in the design of Organizer) which is an invaluable reference on using it properly.

When you create an archive disc you have the choice of putting all versions on the disc or only the top version. So if you move the one you want to the top (Right Click - Version Set>Set as Top Photo and create an archive disc you can just save the top version that you want.

To remove a photo from a version set and have it appear separately in Organizer, set that photo as the top of the version set and then duplicate the version set (File Duplicate). Only the top photo is duplicated. You can then if you want delete the photo you duplicated from the version set and choose another photo as the top one.

Hope this works for you.

Tony

Tony,

Thanks for the idea. That sounds like it will work, and that is one thing I didn't try.

I did try something else, and it appeared to work. My concern is that I may be losing image quality in the process. Here are the steps:

1. Right Click on the version set and click 'Reveal photos in version set'.
2. select the photo I want to extract from the version set, and open the standard editor.
3. Select 'Edit', 'Save As'; uncheck 'Save in version set with original'; give it a new name, and click 'Save'.

This saves a copy of the photo outside of the version set. However, I am concerned that when the editor saves the photo with a new name, that it recompresses the jpeg which would result in additional loss of quality. So, my question to you is: Does this reduce the quality of the photo?

Thanks,

You would have to save a number of times before any noticeable loss would occur, so doing it once is safe.
