Hi All:

I'm new here (this is my first post) and also I'm new in video edition. I just had installed the Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 (I don't have any tutorial) and considering that I don't have any experience with video edition, I'm trying to learn how it works. I have some basic questions to confirm if this software it's what I need for my needs.
I need to do a video playing music. I play a lead instrument (guitar) over a backing track (playback). All this 2 audios are capturing and recording directly by the mic of my camcorder (Sony TRV530 - Digital8). The backing is playing from a CD player.
The doubts are as follows:
1) In Premiere Elements 7.0 and for edition purpose can I separate the 2 audios (one from my guitar and another from backing)?
2) In affirmative case, can I edit one of the audio (ny guitar) replacing some wrong part, just only cutting and pasting? This is posible or not?

And finally, there is available in net (and free) some tutorial about Premiere Elements 7.0?

Cheers from Brazil
Roberto

If you are dealing with Dolby Digital 5.1 channel sound, then we need to go into more detail on how Premiere Elements 7 is handling OR not handling that type of audio. But for now, we will assume that your audio is just the typical Dolby Digital Stereo.

The guitar music could go on one of the many audio tracks, like Audio Track 1, and the background music on the Soundtrack (there is only one Soundtrack). The volume of each can be controlled separately. For that, Timeline view, look into Audio Mixer (one of the icons just above the Timeline, toward the right) OR Properties Panel/Volume Panel (See Window Menu/Properties or Timeline new Properties icon). In the Sceneline, one way is to click to the left of the Filmstrip to bring up the volume slider. You can explore the various ways and see what works for you. (Do not forget to highlight/select the audio clip before your audio adjustments.)

As for free tutorials....in Premiere Elements 4 Help, there was a section named Getting Started that included tutorials that referred to Sample Files in the program's Program Files. I do not see that in Premiere Elements 7. But, I have the tryout version, so I am not sure if that is the reason why I am not seeing that section.

There are two books that may be of use to you (purchased items). One has been released, and the other is due any day.
Premiere Elements 7: The Missing Manual (said to be "available holiday 2008")
The Muvipix.com guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7 by Steve Grisetti. That one has been released. One review that I have seen described it more as a tools book rather than a concept one; nonetheless, it received a good review.

For the free materials, you might want to look at:

FAQ at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe

Check the forum questions/answers here and at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe (http://www.adobeforums.com).

The http://www.muvipix.com site may be of interest. At this time, I think that I see one free Premiere Elements 7 tutorial, but that is only on installing DVD templates. Previously, you just downloaded free tutorials from that site. Now, as I understand it, if you are not a subscriber, you need first to register to get to the free tutorials. I sounds like that registering is a free process, but I am not sure. There are free tutorials there for other versions. But, be careful. Although the principles remain essentially the same from version to version, the location of the features move around.

For now, I would go through your program's help systematically with a mini test project. If you run into any problems, just post the question, and we can try to keep you moving forward in your project....smallest or largest questions are OK and welcomed.

I just report what works for me and/or what I found by reading.
