Having just bought PSE 3.0, and being pretty much a newbie to it all, can someone explain why the magnetic lasso continues to select area even after I release the button on the mouse. If I go to the menus above the photo after selecting with the magnetic lasso, it continues to select area all the way to the drop downs. Has anyone else noticed this?

The Magic Lasso tool is both simple and complex. Start by moving your cursor to a boundary area around what you want to select. Click once and then drag your mouse around the area you want to select. You don't have to click or even hold the mouse button down. The tool will seek the closest edge. To end the magic lasso tool you just have to double click. If you single click it just forces a new inflection point . If you don't double click to end the tool it just keeps looking.

katmaibear,

I tried to get the hang of the magnetic lasso for quite some time ... but never did manage it

The two golden rules I have found with all the lasso tools are:

Once you have started then don't do anything else until you have completed the selection.

Don't spend a lot of time trying to be precise with the selection because you can go back afterwards and tweak it with the selection brush. If the Magnetic Lasso Tool doesn't get it quite right (and with me most times it doesn't get it bang on everywhere) I just carry on and fix it afterwards.

Hello,
I had been having the same issue with this tool, until i watched the video tip on how to whiten teeth. It showed me some tips that make it easier and more fun to use.

Good luck!

Amy

Amy,

Thanks for the tip ... sometimes it is much easier once you have seen someone else do it.
