I just switched from a PC to a Mac, always used PSE6 for windows, now I have PSE6 for Mac - I can't make PSE anything but full screen, can't make smaller or minimize, that's frustrating, but what's really frustrating is trying to close it. I'm having to do a force close to get it to close. I can close files, but can't close the program. Am I missing something?

Other than this, it's smooth going, kind of annoying having the undo on the left side when I'm used to it on the right, but enjoying the easy nudge, works much better than it did in PSE6 for windows.

Thanks for any help you can give me on these two problems I'm having.

Hey Daisybelle, I'm on a mac too. I also bought the Missing Manual for Elements on the mac. According to the book here's what you do to not be in full screen mode.

On the top of the screen click on photoshop elements.

Photoshop elements>preferences>general

then down the first column turn off 'fill workspace background'

Not sure why you're having a hard time closing elements though. I've never had that problem. I usually click photoshop elements up top and then click quit in that dialog box. Another way is to right click or control click the elements icon down in the dock. You'll get another little dialog and then click quit in there.

Hope that helps.

The quit works great, don't know why I didn't think of that - I changed the general prefs, too - this has given me fits for days now, thanks for the easy fix.

You're welcome....glad it worked. I'm pretty new to elements, so I bought that book. Seems to have a lot of little tips like that. I've never used elements before so I was totally lost without the book. It's helped me a lot.

I'ved used a lot, it's a great program, if you don't have the box checked in the General Prefs tab to zoom using scroll wheel, check it - it helps tremendously. Also couldn't live without the up down left right arrow keys to nudge.

Daisy the full window thing did me in also when I got Elements for MAC. I myself used windows for years and thought not being able to change the size was strange on the MAC but got use to it.
I now especially love being able to have no background when working in elements. It's great to be able to have a tutorial open inside of elements while following along.

If you hold down control-command and press h you can hide pse. To open it again just click on pse in the dock and it appears at once. Command-h- will hide iphoto in the same manner. BillandCat

typed too soon. I followed Preference instructions and now PSE Still takes over the entire screen and in the window portion where the pictures I'm working on is my internet page.
Is there some way on MAC not to have PSE cover the entire screen so that I can access and work on other programs as need be?

Short answer is no. Just have whatever you also want to be working with up in the see through panel. ie if you don't want to see internet close or hide safari or whatever browser you are using. I often have a word doc tut open in the background so can follow along.
