I know this is for 5 and 6 and I dont see where 7 is starting up yet. I want to buy 7 for my birthday, but I read evaluations on Amazon about the software and it scares me off. Has anyone installed it yet and have you had any problems. One person said the organizer all moved over but not the captions. Someone else said it is not enough new to warrant the expense. Others said it really runs slow. I have 5 and like it. I want to go to 7, if it is an improvement.

check old posts & reviews - when 5 came out, people hated it compared to 4; ditto for 6 vs. 5, and now for 7 vs earlier versions. :)
I've been using it for about a month without any major, non-self-inflicted issues (& I've taken it apart & put it back together a few times already, with scripts, actions, tweaks & pokes....)
As far as upgrading from 5, if you're happy with 5, there isn't a major reason. There aren't any huge differences in the program in terms of "gotta have it!" features. Download the trial version and play around and see what you think - the demo is available at Adobe.com, and there's no reason why you can't have it installed on the same machine as 5 (it won't steal info or files from earlier versions unless you tell it to).

Grafi,
You stated in your reply to febucher that the demo for PSE7 was available at Adobe.com. I can't find it. Have I missed something?
I do want to try it before upgrading from PSE 5.
Thanks

sure - click here (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/), and mouse over the Photoshop Elements logo.
(Edit - looks like they'll be ready "the end of October" - sorry, I didn't click the "Try" link until just now - - :o )

I recently purchased version 7 and love it! No prior experience with earlier version to compare. Was (and still am for some features) using Photo Impact before.
Now that I own PE7 I want to become an expert! Only felt casually about any photo/graphics software I had in the past.
