After installing PSE/PREL 7.0 on my Toshiba laptop (Vista Home Premium), I have suddenly "lost" my CD/DVD drive. It appears in BIOS, but not in "My Computer."
Does anyone know if there is a patch needed to run PSE/PREL 7.0 in Vista? I seem to recall that PSE 5.0 needed one. Has anyone else "lost" the CD/DVD drive after installation? I hestitate to uninstall the new programs because if my computer doesn't recognize my CD/DVD drive, I would have no way of re-installing them.
I have been to Microsoft's help site as well as that of Toshiba, but haven't really received much help.
Perhaps my problem has nothing at all to do with the recent installations, but I thought I would check here because this site has people who actually do help others.
Thanks.

Can't say for sure but it would seem odd that PSE7 caused the problem..it may have though.
Not heard of any patches for 7 and the one for 5 was to clear up software issues between Vista and PSE.

What you shold do is go tp http://supportmicrosoft.com/Kb/314090 and follow the manual procedure for deleting lines in your registry for the DVD and then reboot your machine, This has happened to me periodically over the last 2 years. I have been told it is because PSE loses track of that device. Hope this helps.

captainmako,
If you don't feel comfortable making changes in the Registry, you might try restoring the computer to an earlier restore point. In Win XP you can find the path by going to -- Start> All Programs>Accessories> System Tools>System Restore--. If this doesn't work try editing the registry.

To Gary K, uncasady, douglas m scott, and johnrellis,
Many thanks for your replies. I went into the registry and deleted the filters, and my CD/DVD drives reappeared!
This problem has driven me crazy for a few days, so I really appreciate your help in finding a solution.
Uncasady, I followed your link to the kb, but that particular one was no longer available. I was, however, able to find a similar one (314060), which gave me explicit instructions. Thanks to you, and all who replied.
I am so grateful for such a wonderful online community.
