A friend of mine and fellow photographer has a Canon Rebel XTI and Elements 2.0 and Photoshop 7.0. She wanted to try shooting in the raw format and did, but when she tried to open it in Elements or Photoshop 7, no luck. She asked my advice, so I looked on Adobe website and could not find anything about these two programs and camera raw. Does anyone know of a download or work around that will help her? Thanks!!

I don't believe either Elements 2.0 or Photoshop 7.0 handle RAW files. She may need to use Canon's DPP software that came with her camera to create a jpg or tiff file and open that in either program. I have Elements 3 and Photoshop CS i.e.version 8 which will open XTI RAW files VIA Adobe's free stand alone DNG converter. I also have Elements 5 and this will open XTI RAW files using its ACR(Adobe RAW Converter) plugin. A visit to :- http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.3bbd164e Adobe's ACR forum will help. Elements 6 and 7 will open these RAW files.

That's one of the problems with RAW and newer cameras (and newer versions of software). The latest RAW converter from Adobe which supports the latest cameras won't run in Elements versions prior to PSE5 or Photoshop CS3. They are about to move to the next version of ACR which will need CS4 or Lightroom 2 or (I hope) PSE7 to run. The only way round it is to use the free Adobe DNG converter but then you don't get the benefits that the latest Camera Raw processors offer (and they are way better than the early versions).
Sadly one of the hidden costs of new cameras is that you often need new software and then a new computer to get the full benefits from it :(. And then there's the printer that needs updating ......

The latest google offering (Picass 3 I think)(Free) opens and lets you do basic manipulation with raw file (Well at least on a Nikon NEF File - I can't see that canon would be any different)
Best of luck

The last time I looked which I think was last week, the older versions of the ACR were still available for the earlier versions of Elements and the CS Line. The comment is correct though that the lastest versions of ACR wont work on the earlier versions of both Elements and CS but those earlier ACR versions are still out there so as to not to worry.
These earlier versions do work with the Canon Line, I am not sure about the new XSI models but I can't really see any problems considering on the other major Photo Forum I am on I've never heard of any problems using Camera Raw with the XSI and Photoshop.
