In Elements 4 at the top right hand corner is a button which if you click on it the Restore feature gives you a workspace 1/2 the width of the Maximize .
In my Elements 5 this button does not work. I use the restore feature often because I have a 22in Monitor & with restore I can just fit a Tut up on the right hand side & follow it.
Should this button function in E5 , if so any idea how I can fix it.?
Thanks. Storm

If you have clicked the "Restore Down" button and you have not got PSE 5 to the window size you want then drag the edges to your required size. This is a standard Windows function not Photoshop; these buttons are on all Windows applications.

Thank you for your Reply athegn.
I know how to size Windows with the double headed arrow & that it is a normal function of Windows.
I have Elements 4 & when I hit this Restore button the window goes down to 1/2 its normal width. Also down in the bottom right hand corner there is a little triangle of dots which also allows me to play further with the size of Elements 4 workspace. I can also adjust the width of the Layers pallete.
In Elements 5 I hit the Restore button & the workspace does not alter in size at all. I have placed my curzor all over & there is no double headed arrow showing up on the outside frames. There is a double headed arrow comes at the side of the Layers Pallete but it does not work either.
E 5 fills up the absolute whole of my screen .
Maybe it is some setting I should alter or something ?
Thanks. Storm

Can't really help because when I just tried it in my PSE5 version it worked just the way you described it as it should work. I did have to move the Window up some to be able to get the double headed arrow to show up on the bottom right hand corner but once I'd used that to scale it down to a smaller size that's what I got when I went from Maximize to Restore.

Just a guess here - but it's something I've struggled with in windows.
When you minimize a window - and then set the size by dragging with the arrows - the next time you minimize and maximize - the window will go back to the size you set.
So - in your new version - minimize and then set the size to what you like - then it should always minimize to that size.
I'm not sure I explained that well, but just know - if you close the window while the window is at a different size - when you reopen it - it will open in that different size.

Why am I not able to resize my PSE4 window - it's not in maximize - and I can move it around my desktop - but I cannot get any arrows to help me resize it - no matter how/where I click

Tony I got lucky & got mad at Adobe like I do with Windows sometimes.:D
I kept HITTING that Multiwindow mode, Cascade ,Tile back & fore back & fore & finally the window moved sufficently for me to find that rt hand bottom arrow. My mouse says Thank you so does my finger. :)
I have had E5 for some time but never use it I dont like it.
I learnt what bit I know & can remember on E4 & guess I am too old to adapt.
When E6 came out everyone was enthusing about some selection tool that was new & easy to use. What is that tool called & is it in E7.?
Thanks Storm

Hi Storm,
The 'new' tool is not new at all. What you are asking about is the Magic Wand Tool which is also in version 5, but it is much improved in version 6. I love how simple it is to make selections and add or subtract from the selections.
I do not have version 7, but I would assume it is still there.

Sorry Janice I did not see your reply before I posted again.
Yes I know about the minimize & opening the same. I have been using E4 for a long time putting tuts up on a 22in so that I can read & try out at the same time. Thats why I got this 22 before I kept HP in busniess printing off reams & reams of instructions.
My problem was that E5 buttons were stuck from lack of use. Probably got arthritis or something.:D
A son gave me E5 ages ago but I like my old E4 which I learnt on & you know how slow I am .
I have twin sons & they will be the big 40 in a weeks time trying to make up cards for them. Got any good nasty ideas.?

Charles the Magic Wand is in E4. Back of my mind I think this new one was being called the Quick selection tool or something.
I know someone said when E6 came out & people were grumbling about the dark color that he figured it was worth it just for this good new selection Tool. Cannot remember who the person was.
The only time I use the Magic wand is when I am making a LO.
When & how do you use it?

It's the Quick Selection Tool and it is excellent (along with Refine Edge). Haven't used the magic wand much at all since Quick Selection arrived. Funnily enough PSE4 is my least favorite version. If I was to vote today I think PSE7 would be the winner but it would be a close tie with PSE6
Glad you got the restore sorted. I did have to drag the top of the window around a bit to reveal the bottom corner so I could get the double headed arrow to work but once you've done it once it should stick.

Definitely in PSE7 - in fact the new Smart Brushes in PSE7 are just combinations of the Quick Selection tool and adjustment layers. Cleverly done but nothing you couldn't do in PSE6. Actually the refine edge is probably the most useful if you do a lot of selections because you can see exactly what the selection will look like and adjust it before you comit to copying and pasting it. With a little bit of practice the quick selection tool and selection brush will handle 90% of the selecting you need to do - it's been a long time since I used the magnetic lasso :)
