Is it possible to have the gallery set up altered to indicate if any comments have been made to our photos without viewing them. I suppose it seems weird but being new to photography I really need to know if it is appealling to people or not. I think it would help us improve and would mean that the number of times a photo has been viewed wouldn't be inflated by the five or six times I check postings in the hope of a comment (Good or Bad) Guess that makes me the only sixtyish five year old in the village?
Thanks
Ron

I think everyone likes to know how people react to their images so I suppose we're all five-year-olds! :D
I don't think there is a way to set your gallery to do this automatically for all images, but you can do one of two things to get email updates of comments. When you upload an image to your gallery you can tick "Email Updates" at the very bottom of the upload page. Or after your images are uploaded you can go to select "Receive Email Updates" from the Image Tools dropdown at the top right of the individual image display.

Hi Ron
As Julie said, there is an option to receive email updates when someone comments.
However - if you really want constructive feedback/responses, I would 'start a thread' in the forums, asking for feedback on specific photos.
OH - it wouldn't do to just ask for critiques on a whole bunch at once, but choose one or two, and ask. People here are GREAT - very active in the community and enjoy the interaction of the forums. I've had some great help from here.

Yes JulieM and Tracy Lee, I was aware of the email option but thought that that avenue precluded the whole purpose of a Forum, in that it would be private, I wanted it for all to see, (if they are interested) I spend a lot more time on the forum looking at other peoples posts in an effort to learn than I do looking at mine. If I see a topic that picques my interest I try to put in my two cents worth if I feel it will be constructive, and ask questions if I need clarification or think others may benefit from it.
I was involved in training while in the Army and although I didn't conform with the Army way of doing things I was effective -Because I made sure to bring everything out into the open- in my classes there was always someone who couldn't bring themselves to ask questions due to being shy or not wishing to appear DUMB! But the only dumb question I ever heard in twenty years service was "Just what do you mean by questions?" When asked at the end of a lesson "Are there any questions?"
For Tracy Lee I have done this on several occasions for the latest see my thread on I don't like background, No-one agreed with me and that is great because it shows that the difference in tastes are what makes this hobby so vibrant and pleasing. No animosity just learning.
My only rule (Self imposed) is if someone is kind enough to comment (Good or Bad) I makes sure I thank them and the thanks is SINCERE (For the bad comments as well as for the good - I ain't perfect YET!! Ha Ha)
Thanks
Ron

Ron,
I think possibly you misunderstand the purpose of the email option on gallery images. When the option is selected, you will receive an email advising you that a comment has been left on your image. The comments are all still public along with any responses you make to them. Isn't that sort of what you wanted to do?

Ron -
Being open to critique is the best way to improve! Good for you!
And you are a bit mistaken, as JulieM says, about the comments. The emails are just an 'alert' to let you know that a comment has been made. The comments are all public, the email just to let you know about it.
I'll check out your thread, and your gallery, too.
Tracy
PS- that was a very funny 'dumb question' ("What do you mean by questions?").

Although I have been on this forum for a few months this is the first forum that I have ever participated in and You insiders do have a language all your own so I will try the email thing next thread but being an old fuddy duddy am worried by an inundation of emails (Ha Ha) terrifies the old.
I do need guidance by you "Old Hands" sorry wrong use of Old I think.. I try to use humour where possible but don;t forget America and England are two countries kept apart by a common language and Australia is a third spoke in the wheel so sometimes it doesn't work and I will apologize now but never again. Thank you for your kindness and understanding and please continue to help me and others of my Ilk, thats Ilk not Elk we don't have them down under.
Ciao

No need to apologize, Ron. Hopefully we can help you get things to work the way you want. But, I'm wondering if I'm misunderstanding you now? The feature I mentioned is for the gallery images and not for forum threads, which is what you mentioned in your last post. While I do use email notifications sometimes for gallery images I never do for forum threads because, like you, I don't want to be inundated with emails. However, if you do want to be notified when replies are made to all threads you've started or to which you've replied, go to "User CP" at the top of the page. Select Edit Options and then in the Default Thread Subscription Mode, select from the dropdown to have instant, daily, or weekly notification. Alternatively, if you want to receive notifications for selected threads only, you can select "no email notification" in the "User CP" and then each time you start a thread or reply to a thread, you can make a choice as to whether you'd like to be notified when replies are made to that thread only. For that just select your email notification option (instant, daily, or weekely) at the bottom of the reply page before you hit 'submit reply'. You can even change your option for each thread after the fact by going to "User CP" and List Subscriptions, then selecting the notification option at the right. All that said, I don't regularly use the forum email option so maybe someone who does will pipe in here. :)
