Out of the blue, I received this photo of my great-grandfather plowing. Needless to say, I was thrilled to have the picture. It was in the newspaper and it was taken in 1937 because there is an article about the Hindenburg on the opposite side. I did a levels adjustment and used Focus Magic. Then, I cleaned it up.
What I am asking is -- Is there anything else that I can do? The photo was backlit to start off with. I don't want to darken the silhoutte because I will lose what detail there is. Would you add a color filter to the picture now? Thanks so much.

What an incredibly awesome photo! I would put a little more sepia tone back in it...emphasize the age rather than trying to conceal it. JMHO Shar

Here's one suggestion.

oh Clara, it is wonderful!
it is a gift, I would leave it just like it is!
imagine how hard we would have to work to get that look!

I would like to see what the cleaned up version would look like with just a hint of sepia tone added to it. Otherwise.... good job!

Because of all the requests for sepia, here is a sepia version. I used the torn part of the paper to create a rustic frame. I feel the frame adds to the photo rather than the clean edges.

This is the most wonderful and supportive forum. You people are wonderful. You have convinced me to go back and work on the picture in the original color. Thanks so much.

I like the original the best becaues of the colors. I agree just clean it up and it is a winner. It makes me feel like he has worked into the late evening hours plowing. Farm work was from sun up until sun down and this captures it. I like the dark against the sepia or golden tones.

first I cleaned up the photo with the clone stamp. I made a copy of that photo and then used a kaleidoscope filter on the copy. I just kept making something with that filter until I came up with something I liked. I added some black canvas around the original photo and then dragged the cleaned up photo onto the kaleidoscope photo and sized it to fit so some of the kaleidoscope made up the frame. If you don't have the kaleidoscope filter it is free from mehdi. just google that and you will find it there. I like to make a copy and use the filter so that the colors match just right. I think I added some black canvas around the kaleidoscope when I was done. Pretty easy to do

Great picture i would do no more than a little cloning on the background, but its colors are great. I would also keep the silouette to use in other things. Again great with minor cloning.
