Can someone please help me to do this on PE6. I need full instructions seeing that I am fairly new to this. The text is a cutout, but is a continuation of the picture.
Pleaseeee. Lisa

Hi, there is a long thread discussing exactly this picture and the explanation to do it....
somewhere on here. I took notes. But not the address.
The author of your picture sample SharLamb is a member here.
You could try to contact her.
It's so frustrating when you can't find what you are looking for.
Hope you find the info. Sorry, couldn't help.

Funnily enough I do remember that one. Here's the thread where we sorted it out - it's done with a clipping mask:

Thanks for stepping in for me, folks. My computer had a critically high fever yesterday, so I was off line for 8 hours while Doctor Computer Dude administered medication and CPR. Whew. It pulled through and I am back today. What a stressful day. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow last night (usually have to read for an hour before sleep comes). Anxiously turned cpu on this morning to find it still functioning. What a thrill.

If Ctrl + G is not working you could try this
Hold the Alt key and hover your cusor over the line between the two layers you want to link.
Text below, picture above.
You will see what looks like two black cirles that overlap.
Click now and the top layer should indent.

Lisa, I'm not sure how to answer your question since I'm not sure which method you are using to make your "Photo Cut-Out," but I am going to give you the steps I used to make mine (finally had time to track it down). It is way easier than you think:
1. Drag and drop a photo into your layout, resizing as needed.
2. Select the TEXT tool and choose the font you want to use (I used Impact). Type out the word you want, then position and size it so it fills the width of your photo.
3. Right click the text layer's name in the layers palette, and choose SIMPLIFY LAYER.
4. Select the RECTANGLE tool. Click and drag to draw a rectangle that covers the photo just down to the top of the text. It doesn't matter what color your rectangle is.
5. In the layers palette, right-click the name of the rectangle layer and choose MERGE DOWN.
6. Drag the photo above the newly created text/rectangle layer.
7. Hold down the ALT key and click between the text & photo layers in the layers palette.
Voila! There you should have your Word Cut-Out.
Hope this works for you.

Lisa, I should add that I use PSE 5. Also, the original instructions I used called for using the rectangular marquee tool instead of the rectangle tool. Then you had to fill it with the foreground color. I found that it is faster to just use the rectangle tool, and let it fill with whatever color is there.
