It would be great to see the functionality of the patch tool introduced into elements.

I too love the patch tool .. but I guess its another one of those features that Adobe are keeping out of Elements to maintain the differential between the two programs.

It would be nice to see it in Elements :)

In the meantime I do a work around by selecting the area I want to patch with any lasso tool, hover over the selection and click/drag to the area I want to patch from and do a slight feather before copy/paste. Use the move tool to position the patch then run the healing brush with sample all layers checked around the edges of the patch.

Well, I'm a Photoshop ignoramus, but you've got my curiosity piqued, so, what's a patch tool?

Hi Tim, I was curious as well.

The Patch tool in Photoshop works like a combination of the Lasso tool, for selecting an area to be fixed; and the Healing Brush tool, for actually fixing the problem. Using the Patch tool is smarter than using the Clone Stamp tool to clone one area on top of another because, unlike the Clone Stamp tool, the Patch tool attempts to match the texture, lighting, and shading of the area that you’re trying to fix. The result is that the fixed area will be a better match in texture and tone than cloning can achieve.

I found this information here (http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=693645).

Sepiana, thanks for posting that link. It says there " Helen Bradley discusses some handy Photoshop tools that are often overlooked or misunderstood, either because they’re hidden away or because their use isn’t immediately apparent." No kidding!! I don't use half the tools in PSE, and don't know how to, either. But I probably don't really need them. PSE is mainly oriented toward working with photographs, but I use it for art work (which it does quite well). :)

Thank you ljameso1 (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/member.php?u=5316) for your tip on faking the patch tool. I'm going to try it. I have both Elements 7 and Photoshop CS3 and miss spellcheck, patchtool, and pen tool when working in PSE. I teach PSE so I seldom use my CS3 anymore.
