I have just posted four photos taken recently that show the problems these birds are causing. Indian Minors are taking over from most Australian Native birds, and size makes no difference, they appear to eat anything and are a real worry for smaller birds, and if Magpies (Very Territorial and aggressive) and Crows with their reputation are being harrassed I wonder what the future holds for smaller species?

Is this a result of humans bringing in the invaders, or have they found their way on their own?

Don't quote me as I am not sure and in thier own way they can be cute, we have a native "Noisy" Minor that is very gregarious but is apparently suffering under the pressure that thier Indian cousins are applying. However Australians were responsible for introducing the Cane Toad which never caught many Cane Bugs but has spread from the Queensland coast where most of the Sugar Cane is grown, south as far as Sydney New South Wales, and last reports have them closing in on the West Australian border ner Broome, so that means Kakadu and Litchfield Park (South of Darwin) must be infested. One interesting thing about that Crow I photographed is that it seems other than man they are the only animal capable of keeping down the Cane Toad numbers as they flip the Toads over and rip open the stomache where there are no poison glands. Clever birds them Crows, I have even heard of an Arkansas study that indicates that they can count as high as twelve. _ Ain't Nature wonderful?
