hi,

i was reading a magazine (what digital camera) and it said that the polarizer should always be the filter the furtherest away from the lense and since ive been using one with my nd grad on the front of my camera it got me wondering if i shouldnt have both on or i misread what the mag said. Can anyone please clarify this? thanks

Hi

Not an expert but my guess would be that for the polaizer to be most effective (as in actually polarizing) it should be at the very front of the lens. Likely any other filter would effect the angle of the light coming in so polarizing may not happen or at best be reduced.
If you are just using it to darken (for longer shutter times) then it likely won't make much difference where in the stack it is.

Take this as you will.:)

The polarizer should always be in front.

hi,

Polarizer should always be the filter the furtherest away from the lense.

Correct.
Or on LAST, in front towards the subject to be Photographed.

Gary posted probably the best and easiest way to explain it.

Thank you, Gary. Its something that we have to keep reminding ourselves when pushing different glass around and switching filters fast because it should have been on so I could take this shot.
