I really respect the talent of everyone on this site & beyond that I know I can come in here & get an honest (& sometimes brutal) opinion on anything I bring forward.
The last few weeks of classes have been quite intense, lot's of homework & lot's of reports to write...anywho, I've been rethinking my logo for my new venture & I would really appreciate some feedback.
Just pretend for a moment you don't know me (not that hard, huh?)
& take a look at the first logo idea...let's say you see it on a sign or a vehicle.
First impression please.

Here is one other, I have it as a watermark on my site, yes it sends a message but does it scream "film" instead of "just photography" though I only do digital?

Do you think I should combine the two?
Should I try something else?
Should I rethink it & come up with more of a symbol like logo?
Should I just go into the kitchen & bang my head repeatedly into the wall?
Would love to hear what you think.

I like the first one. Quiet elegance.
The second one looks too industrial.

Hey Rob

I prefer the first one by a mile. Mind you I'm not nuts about the lower font..not sure why?? Maybe finer??? Or maybe not even needed.

Mind you I am far from a designer of any sort. I did paint a couple of doors today though.:D

The word photography in the top one is fine. It's has an Art Nouveau feel.

I was referring to the lower font in the top logo.. in case I wasn't clear.:D

Gary, that's fine with me. It's a plain font that would go with any other font.
Things are pretty active for a Saturday night. How did your doors turn out?

Big thanks guys,
Frank, the Art Nouveau theme was exactly was I was going for! Maybe a bit Retro.

Gary,
Is it maybe the lines? Let me know please.

Jo,
Thanks...a little late, wow my head hurts.

I prefer the first one. It is more dignified. Would give the impression your work is high quality. You're right about the second one. The film theme doesn't work for digital.

Good luck in your work.

I think the first one wins. It really looks Classy to me and appealing.

I, too, love the look of the first one. I do wonder, though, if the Scriptina font makes it hard to read your name.

(I hope my comment doesn't induce more head-banging... )

Rob

I'm not sure about the lines..I wondered the same myself but I think they are fine.

I do believe that basic design says, less is better, at least when it comes to fonts.

I vote for #1 also. It's more creative....photography is creative, so #1 follows that message.

Plus, if I saw that, I'd be so excited to recognize the Scriptina font. :D

I like the first one. It has a 3D effect and the colors are eye catching (to me). Viewing the "thumbnail" in your post, it was at first a little 'busy' and I couldn't make out if the last letter was an 'e' or a 't'.

I clicked on your thumbnail and wow! what a difference in presentation. Immediate reaction with the red and black on white was: classic, confident, and creative.

I saw that your website at the end had your 'spelling' and then of course Lopshire pops out instead of Lopshirt. I only mention this cuz you asked if I saw it on a truck/van - would it catch my eye. This signage would catch my attention. The correct name might not be 'caught' passing by. Just me.

My husband just walked in and I asked him to quickly tell me what he read. . . and (please forgive me) he said his first notice was "lobster" or "Lobshirt". I asked him what he thought (not knowing the name or the reason for me asking) about the design and he said he liked it but "in passing" he didn't catch the name of the business.

His 'eye' read the top of the photography bar and didn't register the flurish tail of the 'p' dropping below; hence the 'p' took on a rapid ' b' and the 'e' at the end threw him (and me) with its extra little line making it look like 't'.

Rob, we don't know the 'name' so my comments are from someone passing by and catching a glimmer at your sign. If someone knows the name, no problem. . . and it really is an eye-catching sign.

The second selection doesn't display the same confident creativity of the first. I would think that you only specialized in 'movies' - -

Rob, what font did you use for the red Lopshire in the first one? I love it.
