Brush question

Yesterday I added a few new brushes and used them. Elements had an error and had to close. When I restarted it, my brushes no longer appeared in the brush list. I checked and they are there under presets and I can load and use them. Today when I opened Elements, they are still not appearing in the list of brushes but are in the Presets>Brushes. I can still load and use them.
What is the problem here?
