I took a few pictures of some flowers for a friend of mine. They were in her garden. She's an elderly women and cant remember the name to the flowers. She has to leave her home and move in with her daughter, and leave all her plants and flowers behind, so I thought I would make her something to take with her. If you can help me with the name to these flowers I would very much appreciate it. There are two that i'm not at all familiar with. This one she calls her firecracker plant.

Looking forward to learning the names of these pretty flowers!

How very caring of you !
My best guess it that the red flower is "love lies bleeding' it's an amaranth like the grain. The blue flower is centauria montana or perennial bachelor button.

Ellen, you seem to be correct:
Amaranth
Hanging in small ropes, the burgundy of the amaranth is pretty in the garden this time of year.

Deborah, thanks for asking. I have some of those blue flowers and I never knew what they were -- and didn't know how to find out. So, thanks to Ellen for identifying it!
It's amazing how much you can learn here!

And, if I might butt in with one of my own mystery plants -- anyone know what this one is called?

I got a piece of this from someone who didn't know what it was.

I can't begin to Thank everyone enough for all your help...
I think I'll add the names to the pictures for her. That will help her alot.
Jo, She had something like that in the yard also. She called them Prairie Phlox. Are they the same?

Deborah, that looks like the same plant to me, but mine are not quite that tall!

That was my granddaughter next to them, they are rather tall.
I'm 5 9 and some of them were taller then me.

Mine are probably about 4 feet tall.
I googled "prairie phlox" and that doesn't look like it.
The mystery deepens...

Jo- your yellow plant is lysimachia punctata or yellow loosestrife. Same family as the nasty purple loosestrife that invades wetlands. I don't know what Deborah's yellow plant is - it looks related to sunflowers rather than a phlox.

Thanks, Ellen.
Deborah's looks very much the same to me except that it's so tall!

Deb,
I think it is an amazing idea I wish I knew my neighbors or more people around me so that I could do things like that for them!
Your a sweet thoughtful person to think of that !

Thank you everyone for all the kind words, also for the search of the flowers names.
She was so happy when I told her the names of the flowers and how I went about asking for help. She still calls the red flowers her (firecracker plant) oh well.
I'm in the process of drying a few seeds for her, I'll add them to the bottom of each picture, Add the names, and then frame a few so she can keep out of a table or wall, the rest I'll make her a little scrapbook.
Again, many thanks for everything
Deborah
