Great article on shooting panoramas in this months Outdoor Photographer. You can read it online here (http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/how-to/shooting/panoramas-getting-the-big-picture.html).

Thanks, Bill. I've been wanting to get some tips on how to do this. I'll check that article out later...

Bill, thanks. I've bookmarked the site. Panorama -- that's something I haven't tried yet.

Thanks for the link - some good suggestions although I'd just shot a panorama and broken some of the rules :). No tripod so I used a monopod. No prime lens so I used a zoom. Shot in lanscape and not portrait. But I did shoot manual (same exposure for all shots) and I did use RAW which gets round the auto white balance issue (you can then choose the same white balance for all shots). Stitched it in PSE6 which does a great job (no visible lines between shots).

This used about 8 shots of the fall colors in Algonquin Park. They are just reaching their peak this week. Going to have to do some more editing on it when I get back to civiliztion - my laptop in the field isn't that great for editing colours.

I took this this past summer not knowing anything about the rules. The pics were taken hand-held from a boat. The water and shore came out ok, but the sky was a variety of exposures due to shooting in auto. So I selected the sky and replaced it with a blue gradient. Thank you for posting this link; I think I can now improve my technique.

Tony, the panorama you posted is AWESOME.
What an inspiration. I've got to give this a try, although no RAW option, nor lightroom........hmm....maybe it's over my head afterall....

Great job, Tony!

The few that I have tried before were also done landscape, but I can see the reasoning behind saying use portrait. Hey -- whatever works!

tanks for the post Bill, good reading to refresh the process,,

Tony, nice work for sure,,

over the past years I have often resorted to a pano in lieu of my widest angle as it will offer a better photo,, you can gain more width and not have the distortion the super wides offer,, of course there are times you want that distortion from a super wide to add to the photo,,

for those without a wide lens the pano is the way to go,, PSE offers an easy way to handle the merge,,

I also use Autopano Pro as it has greater abilities for final detail work,,
