Hi!
Recently, a friend that recently bought a Mac OS, asked me in what way Windows is better than the Mac.
He claims that the Mac is way better than Windows, the MS OS.
I want to think different:).
What do you think?
How is Windows better than the Mac?
Please reply.
Thanks!

Although there many more programs for the PC. most graphic programs were originally written for the mac.
The Mac comes with a lot of software like iTunes, iPhoto, etc.
I think the most important difference is that the Mac is pretty much self healing when it comes to problems.
There is very little that goes wrong with them that the operator can't fix with ease.
Also the Mac is a true plug and play. Any application or peripheral that you connect to the Mac automatically works.
About 6 months back there was quite an extensive discussion about Mac vs PC.
This was in association of a couple of contributors who where contemplating switching from PC to Mac.
I think one of the people was Jancy.

I switched to mac this year, iMac and have since bought a macbook pro. THe problems with continual crashing that I was getting on the PC were what initially pushed me to the mac side.

Since then, with the time spent on the mac its clear that the mac OS is more intuitive and stable. The machines are faster for the same task as a PC and they really are plug and play, setting up my wireless network took 5 mins including getting both macs and my PS3 online, the only hold up came with the PC laptop in the house!!

Macs are more expensive, but for the hassle free computing worth it IMHO.

I'm the only mac user in my family. In the 6yrs I've had the same mac, my various family members are on their 2nd and sometimes 3rd pc of various brands. I think that says a lot in terms of up front costs vs long term costs.

All things being equal, I'd be a Mac person. Actually, I'd do both, as we use Windows at work. For my stuff, though, it would be a Mac.

However...all thigns aren't equal, with the main one being price. I recently bought a Dell laptop for about half of what a similarly configured MacBook Pro would have cost. And that's with Apple's educator discount.

Bottom line, I'm at the point in life (and will be for some time) when price is often one of the key deciding factors. Not always, but often...

Apple has the best customer service and customer satisfaction rate in the industry. Consumer Reports consistently rates Mac above the rest in reliability. CR also mentions that Windows has more programs. Apple now has the ability to run MicroSoft programs on Mac computers. In fact, the newer iMacs come with a 60 day free trial of MS programs, including Entourage, Word, and a couple of others I can't remember. (I deleted them immediately from my iMac, because I had no use for them.)

I don't think you can get a better computer than a Mac. I wouldn't have anything else. (I saved 2 years to get mine!):D

Hi , I just bought a new PC about 2 weeks ago... My choice would have been a MAC however the cost differential was just to great and then
the price to change over my software was just to much...
The MAC that I tried really looked great and I would recommend it to anyone who does not have a major investment in other software....
Unfortunately price wins out....... Tom :o

I have both PC and Imac. I've been a PC user for many years and received an IMac in February as a gift and I love it. I did have problems with the first imac-dead pixel-and they returned it and gave me a new one no questions asked. Then the second iMac had a problem after a firmware update and Apple then replaced it again with an upgraded one without me even asking. And third ones a CHARM!
I honestly think that I would not be able to chose I like both PC and Mac so I will always be with both. Especially for some of the software I have that is not available for mac.
I have to admit though that the MAC is definitely a lot more user friendly than the PC, especially if a person is not computer savvy.
The customer service for MAC as mentioned above is absolutely fantastic. I am a very happy new mac user-I love it.

You'll notice that the Mac people are speaking up saying how much they love Mac even though what you asked was "what is there to like about PC?". I will add that I also switched to an iMac in April, and I would never switch back. I don't think you will find the answer you want to hear.

I've been a PC user since day one & the problems have been few & far between. Most of the programs I run are graphics based including photography, 3D rendering (Poser) & even MMORGP. I've used MAC & yes they are great, you pay a bit more for what you get & in fact for my business I will be buying a MAC laptop.
The PC can be finely tuned to increase performance & reliability which is not that hard to do but can thwart a lot of your everyday users. Also remember that some of you major brand PC's such as Dell,HP, & Gateway are mass produced machines (don't get me started on the crap they shove into these machines before you even purchase them). Finding a PC that can be really custom built for you like Alienware (like I have now),Systemax, & ASUS are prime machines & built very well, unfortunately the OS is Windows (mentioned before, it can be tweaked or overclocked).
If you are one who is into overclocking you machine, you should stay very happy with you PC, longterm investment or out of the box graphics grab a MAC.
In any case if your friend offers advice by saying "Way better" with out any clarification or advice (including comparisons) I would consider his opinion worthless.

I have used Macs for over 15 years .. so I guess that places me as a Mac lover :)

One thing I will say about software is that many software companies (like Adobe) will do a platform switch disk for you at a very low price. Usually just a few dollars to cover the postage.

Last I heard was that Adobe charged around $6.

... another thing is that there are dedicated sites for switchers where you can get one to one mentoring for changing from Windows to Mac :)

Hmmm,

Since nobody has mentioned it...
No spyware or viruses on a Mac
You don't have to be a security expert! :D

I'm not saying that Windows users have this problem

No spyware or viruses on the Mac......YET!

One has to be vigilant and keep security updates - up to date. With more people switching to Macs and making the base larger - it might make it "worth" some jerk's time to come up with something.
Also - Mac people can pass those nasty windoze viruses on to other windoze people - don't ask me how - but there was a recent article in MacWorld or another Mac magazine that mentioned that this could happen.

Ah, another MacWorld reader! I think it's the best of the Mac magazines! Their website is pretty cool, too. AND, I get a MacWorld Gem almost every day by email.:)

(I get daily tips by Scott Kelby & co. from Photoshop Planet, too! Short, but mostly very sweet!:D)

The Mac vs Windows debate is going to run and run as there is no real way to give a simple, single back or white answer. Both have merit. I use both. A Mac at home Windows at work (although I'm now using Linux to write this, at work).

I've used Macs since the early 90s (Mac Classic II was the first one I bought). I even had direct experience of a Mac virus (back in the 90s). For ease of use I prefer Macs.

One thing a Windows PC is good at is availability of software. The main reason why we use Windows at work is just because we have to. There are programs we need that don't run under Lnux or Mac. With windows you have more choice and generally more support for those third party applications.
