I have a Scrap page which I have already saved as PSD.
Tut then says do Merge Visible so you can bring all the work on to the same Layer, so that you can move the whole page on to Green Background.
Problem is I cannot get it to save properly. Get one of these files " windows does not know etc"
To do a Merge Visible I go Layer>Merge Visible, my background is not locked.
I click File >save as & then get a message in the save on menu that it must be saved as a copy. I have tried to save in Jpg with a different name . What exactly should I do ?
I have spent 3 hrs doing this I use Elements 4 but then went into E5 & its the same there.
What am I doing wrong ?

Storm, if I remember correctly in pc it saves the psd document as a copy so that your still left with the original psd and its layers.
This will allow you to correct, change and add layers in the future.
When you save you will be able to select jpeg.
Go ahead and say ok and then select jpeg.
As long as it's saving as a copy you will have the original in tact.
Post back if you have any problems, however perhaps a pc user will come along with a definite answer.

Storm,
It sounds like it should be "Stamp Visible". Try doing this & see if it works for you. Make sure your top layer is highlighted then hold down the Shift, Ctrl, Alt, + E, all at the same time & this will combine all the layers into one at the top of the stack. Then you can drag this layer where you want to.

Frank Christel I did manage to save it once as a jpeg dont ask me how.
I cannot get 4 keys at once Christell so that is why I do it thro' Layers.
Will keep working on it.
What a life:D
Next the mouse quit getting me on the Internet so plug in another mouse, no good. Then decide to shut puter right down & pull electric cords.

Hubby wants his good steak supper, get it all ready turn on my stoves big element & Poofh. Hubby goes to box finds the Breaker stuck 1/2 across fiddles with it & there goes the remainder of the Elements.

The cheese sandwich & orange juice were not too bad :D
Poor old back aches from pulling out desks & Stoves.

Tomorrow is another day:)
Thanks Storm

Hi Storm ..

Being a Mac user I am not a great deal of help in this one but if all else fails do Select>All then Edit>Copy Merged.

Next do File>New Blank File (it will create it the right size)
... then Edit>Paste.

... and save that one with a new name :)

Storm, if I read you correctly you lost your work on the computer?
If yes, what you need is a battery backup. If your lights go out your computer will continue to run from a couple of minutes to a hour.
All you need is the minimum version which will allow you to save whatever your working on before shutting down.
They have them from $40 US.
APC is presently offering free shipping.
You can call them toll free: 800-555-2725

Thanks Frank & .Wendy.
Frank I did not lose my work as I had already saved it as a PSD & was then trying to do Merge Visible according to the Tut but thanks for the Battery Tip.
Wendy I will try out your instructions but you are a Scrapper so can you tell me something.
When I make a Montage or a Scrappage I always save it in PSD first then my system is to just go File>Save as and save it as a JPG with a different name. I do not merge or Flatten in anyway.
That jpg is what I use to print out myself or send online to a commercial printer e.g Walmarts.
Is there anything wrong with this method of saving ? Does it do any harm to the photos in the Lo ?
This particular LO was going to be put on to a larger background .
It was one page of a Photobook destined to Viovio.
Thanks for help. Storm

Hi Storm, as to "cannot get 4 keys at once" --- that is a 2 handed operation.
3 keys on the left hand and the E key with the right.
I did some major contortions before I figured this out.
