Workspace Background

I want to have Elements 6 open, and iPhoto open with both visible on the screen at the same time side by side.

I went into Preferences and unclicked Fill Workspace Background, but nothing happened. I restarted my computer. Nothing.

There is not a grabbable corner.
There is a Maximize Mode icon top right.

How do I make it work?

I'm wondering if you accidently clicked on cancel or reset instead of ok after unchecking?
