Hi...

I'm new and I'm doing some tutorials. When I open the photos I'm using, it doesn't allow me to have more than one open at a time. So, I can't drag one photo into another to create a new layer. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Susan

I'm pretty new, but try this:
File>open
Window>Images>Tile (or) Cascade

Hope it works

When you open multi-photos they should be in your photo bin at the bottom. If so drag them up into your work area.( PSE 6 use Cmd-T and drag your work area photo DOWN onto the Photo bin for the photo that you want, then Windows>Cascade or Tile.

Or ( the hard way) to add photos to your work Area you can select your photo, Edit> copy open PSE editor Edit >Paste and it will show as a Photo in the layers pallet also.

Hope this helps.... others will be along shortly to give you more info and other methods.

I am assuming the photos are showing up in the Photo bin at the bottom of your work area, is that right?

I think I was unclear in my question: in the tutorial, when he opens a photo, it is contained in a "box" that has information across the top and bottom. Then he opens another photo and it appears on the screen with its own information. Then he moves one photo by dragging it around.

My problem is when I open a photo, it doesn't have any information on it or a bar where I can drag it around. I feel like I have something shut off.

Is that any clearer?

I think you are in Maximize mode. Go to >Window >Images >Tile.

I'm trying to create various layers, but can't do it if I don't have independent photos to work with.....

What version of PSE are you using? Can you see your Layers Pallette? Can you see your Photo Bin Pallette?

The photo you have a thumbnail to looks like from the Online Layers class by Matt K. Is it?

As other have said, you can have multiple pictures opened. Just open all your photos that you want. Then go to Windows>Images>Tile. All your pics should then be in a grid type view. Then click the window of one of your photos, click the layer icon of that photo and drag it to other window of you other photo. This will place one picture on top of another as two separate layers.

Also, what do you mean by tags? I am not clear on that part of your question.

Yes, it is Matt's class and I'm using PSE6. What you recommended did work (why does it always do that when someone is helping you and you feel really stupid?) I'm still curious as to why I don't get those wrap around info bars on my photos when I just open them from the "File".Open.

Thanks very much.

What do mean by "wrap around info bars"?

I took Matt's class too. It is a great class and you will learn plenty about layers and will enjoy it.
